1983-2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Araria (Bihar): A protest against a proposed starch factory in Forbesganj, Bihar, turned bloody after four people were killed in the police firing. The incident happened yesterday. Out of the four people, two succumbed to their injuries today. A six-month-old child is among those killed. His mother is lying in hospital in critical condition. The villagers were protesting that one of the roads connecting their village to Forbesganj town was blocked by the owners of the factory. According to the police, protesters got violent and tried to set ablaze the factory. The police then fired 10 rounds to disperse the mob. The mob had burnt a tractor and damaged vehicles of police and the sub-divisional magistrate. Principal Secretary, Home, Amir Subhani and ADG (Headquarters) Rajbardhan Sharma told reporters that 27 policemen and five villagers were also injured in the clash and were being treated at different hospitals. "Our investigation into the incident has not yet concluded as villagers are not cooperating. 1983-2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 Human Rights body for probe into police firing Patna, Jun 7 (PTI) Taking suo mottu cognisance of the Forbesganj police firing that claimed four lives on June 3, Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has asked for a probe. The commission directed the commissioner and IG of Purnia to ensure a joint probe and submit a report within the next four weeks. Justice Rajendra Prasad, member of the commission, confirming the BHRC's directive said, "we have asked the two officials to record statements of police and members of the public". "You must also verify the facts as shown on TV news channels showing policemen jumping over bodies and indulging in brick batting with the mob," the commission ordered. Four persons were killed and 30 others, including 25 policemen injured in police firing and clash between policemen and a mob opposing construction of a starch factory in the Forbesganj Industrial Area and an approach to the factory on June 3. I say we need to analyse the dead protesters, what their motives were, why they did, were they attention seeking blah blah? No you are in outrage at action taken against protestors. But all for Radev and his followers getting a beating. Hypocritical stand

saneindian Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 The entire incident is unfortunate. A huge blot on Nitish' administration. What is even more unfortunate is the attempts to give it a communal color. The protestors getting killed were all Muslims and hence the police firing is being pictured as a war against the minorities. The Bihar govt has already ordered a judicial inquiry and those responsible for firing on innocents should be punished for this crime. Far too many innocent lives are getting lost during these protests due to the mismanagement of the situation by the police and their indiscriminate firing. It's time to let them know that with a gun in their hand, the lives of innocents is not at their mercy and that they too will have to abide by the laws of the land.

At one point, the cop takes a short run and jumps brutally straight onto Mustafa’s face (marked in red circle). Mustafa’s hands go up in helpless defence.
