There were some posts here talking about American stupidity - and there is no better example of this than this one at least 25% of Americans are totally stupid. The breakdown: Republican voters: 85% support photo ID requirement. Democrat voters: 63% support photo ID requirement. Others: 77% support photo ID requirement
yoda Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Well what if you don't have a valid photo ID before the elections for one reason or another - expired, misplaced/lost, never got one cause I was too lazy, never got one cause I am too stupid, never got one cause I don't believe in proving my citizenship in my own country? Lose the right to vote?

This is not a myth, just reality. Explains the problem from one perspective. Sure - a voter ID is good enough as long as it has a picture on it. Regardless, a valid photo ID does not mean a driver's license. I got a state-issued photo ID for $5 and had it for several months before I got my driving license. It is not a huge deal. If you want to vote, go get an ID. I am not sure how this infringes on your citizens' rights, or how it is government interference in your life to prove that you are who you are when you vote. And people are being ridiculous when they say this is comparable to pre-civil rights voter suppression. As for the elderly, minorities and low income group folks, maybe their advocacy groups - AARP, ACORN and NAACP - should go out there and help them get their photo-IDs instead of whining or (in the case of ACORN) cheating. How about this compromise? In Indiana, "Under the law, a voter who shows up at the polls without a photo ID can cast a provisional ballot to be counted only if, within the next 10 days, the voter shows a photo ID to the local county clerk. Why are the dems so afraid of it?
