The Future Test Middle - Order for India?

Rohit still has long way to go. Sometimes I feel he is happy and gets complacent. That hunger is not there to become legend. Pujara has been unlucky. He was in the process of cementing his place, but got injured. I have high hopes on Pujara, Rahane, Kohli and Rohit (only if he can motivate himself to be a test batsman) I also think Sehwag may bat in middle order later after big 3 retire.

Totally disagree. His lazy, languid batting style gets confused with not wanting it/not being hungry. Its just his elegant way of batting, same criticisms got levelled at Gower and were unfounded. Rohit showed his hunger by going to mundane FC cricket and piling up the runs

Guys the thread was for the future middle order when 2 of the big three retire. I hope one of them hangs around a bit more and pass on their legacy. the only prospects I see from current Indian lineup is Virat Kohli, Pujara & RG Sharma. Unless Sehwag decides to drop down the order (which is his desire), we might end up with a stable middle order. But if Shewag drops down, it throws up a fight between Virat, Pujara & RG Sharma and the opener's slot will be occupied by Murali Vijay who cannot perform outside India.

I think Sachin will be around for a while longer than the other two. I agree that we need one batsman to bed in to the no.6 spot by the time Dravid and Laxman go. I thought Pujara showed some good signs against Australia and in South Africa (despite his lack of runs overall) and its a real blow that he got injured in the IPL. Hopefully Kohli makes a good start to his Test career. As mentioned, I see Sharma and Rahane as the other potential Test middle order bats. I just don't rate Raina as a Test player though.

Gambhir Sehwag Rahane Kohli Rohit Sharma Pujara Dhoni
Compare this to senior Indian top order Sehwag Gambhir Dravid Sachin Laxman Ganguly Except Gambhir, none of the new generation have the ability to average 50+. Take out Zaheer and Sehwag in 2 years time, future doesnt looks so bright for crazy Indian fans.

Agree, Its extremely hard to replace Dravid, Tendu & Lax. Thats what this thread all about. We have some promising youngsters. As far as Sehwag and Zak, the still have 4 more years left, so I'm not worried too much. Guys dont have to bash every pakistani out here, just because he is telling the truth. I'm sure he knows his team is in a lot of sh!t given Umar 'Bradman' Akmal is the best bat to comeout with a average of 30+ in the last couple of years

ITDUZZ is known everywhere for his comic posts:haha:. But this one made sense to me

Dravid = Kohli Laxman = Rohit Tendulkar = Pujara Raina/Yuvraj can fight it out for the last spot. Those are the only spots that will be available to be replaced at the latest.

They said the same about Gambhir and Sehwag too. Look where they are now. Each of these 22-23 year old that people are talking about have got the potential and would serve our cricket well. Yes we will need to be patient but one they have settled down in international cricket they will be successful. BTW in the future we may not have a middle order full of batsmen with 50+ test average but we will have a top 7 each of whom will definitely have a batting average of 40+. Will make up for the absence of the stalwarts.

Exactly three years ago Gambhir was averaging 32 in Test cricket with just one century, that too against a minnow. Pretty sure itduzz would have been trashing him just like he's rubbishing the young Indian players right now :giggle:

People forget Dravid used to get hammered for his miserable record against Aussies. Then 2001 series changed all. Zakky used to get slaughtered for bad attitude, fat, lazy, rubbish etc etc. Dumped for 1 year then came back and rest is history. Our youngsters will mature and develop. They will suffer failure along the way and may get axed etc. But they will come back, they will get stonger and stronger and deliver for us.

Kohli and Sharma look to be the obvious replacements. Both have immense talent, now they just need the opportunity. Pujara, Rahane are good too, but Kohli and Sharma have the potential to be greats. (Ill admit I havent watched much of Mukund so I can really say how good he is).
