Badri, who was the likely replacement for Pujara, has looked totally out of sorts, Raina since his disastrous test knocks in SA, hasn't done much to get back his test spot. Why not reward Rohit for his good batting? On current form, he is a must in that inexperienced Indian batting line up in tests. In the past,. I do remember VVS being asked to stay back for the ODI leg on the 1999 Aus tour after his 167 in the last test
Texan Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Yes, he should. He's finally beginning to show some consistency and this may just be the right time to get him into the test squad. At any rate, he is definitely a better test prospect than Raina.

He has shown great temperament and have played nice and easy. He has been very fluent in this tour and I expect him to dominate in the Longer format as well. Its a Yes from my side, but its the opinion of the selectors that counts, so lets hope they pick him instead of the clueless Badri. All I know is that Badri being their favourite due to many reasons (State, Franchise favouritism) will get his chances ahead of Rohit. So lets hope one of the senior players decide to opt out and Rohit gets his chance

The 1st test starts there after 4 days and we are yet to hear about the travel plans of RD, VVS, MSD, Mithun, Vijay, Mukund and Ojha. Ideally all of them should have been in Windies now. But guess it will be the case of out of the plane and straight into the test match.

But the conditions are not all that difficult to adjust, if it were England, I am sure they would have traveled a week before the Test Match, but Windies conditions are almost similar to the sub continent except the track has a little more bounce on it.

Kohli has to make his debut now. Has earned it. The fight is for Pujara's spot and the contenders are Badri/Raina and I am hoping Rohit gets added to the Test squad as well. Badri would have been the front runner for that nhumber 6 position had he done well in the ODIs. But he may well have blown his chances unless he can produce a good innings in the 5th ODI.

As you mention, the Test players still haven't arrived (as far as we know) in the Caribbean, so its all the more important we have someone who is in form in these conditions in this series. Sharma's first-class record is way superior to Raina anyway. He has struggled in one day cricket even at List A level (yes, he's done well in this series and I hope he continues in this vein in ODIs, but then he did well in Zimbabwe too before struggling again) but you can't argue with an FC average of 60 with 10 centuries and as mentioned, he is batting well right now. As for Badri, he has looked totally overawed by the WI bowlers in this series. Its not a question of him being better in Tests than ODIs - both his FC and List A records are very good but he is very limited against even half decent international bowling (WI are nothing special).
