The good players from Aus, Eng and SA during that time will all be in IPL!!!! Some utterly crappy players who cannot get an IPL contract will be available for the A tours at that time... And moreover, you did not answer the poster's question which is: Why should they LOOSE the money they can make in IPL?

I'm no fan of the IPL but its ridiculous to suggest some players should be deprived of the money while the rest rake it in. Test cricket fans like us might prefer to see our best players focusing on FC and Test cricket, but these guys are professionals and the majority of their income comes from the IPL.

OP don't you think you are doing injustice to these talented players by labelling them as test specialists? Are you also suggesting IPL will end up messing up their techniques and thus again assuming them to be technically unsound hence losing it due to 50 days of t20 cricket?

I think you just over-exaggerated your thoughts, Deepak. Your point is somewhat valid, that the upcoming stars may be getting more habitual to the shorter format of the game, but then its not necessary they will conquer their skills in the longer format of the game. We need to realize that IPL is just 60 odd days and during the rest of the year, they are busy in traditional national level matches. We don't need to worry much tbh.

I think IPL helps them. I for one believe that it complements test cricket so they should play this format. Not trying to start an argument but just stating my views.

Who the hell are you to ban them? Who will replace their IPL salaries then? You? Some of them come from pretty low middle class backgrounds (Varun, Umesh also I think)...will you help their families with at least the minimum $20k they get now? You realize it is a great opportunity for their families to raise from lower middle class to mid middle class, right? It usually takes 20-25 years of one generation's hard work to be able to afford a good education for the next generation who can then help lift the family's economic class a little higher, and next generation builds upon that. What a stupid suggestion! Shall I ban you from earning a livelihood in Technology fields or Outsourcing organizations? Of course we need more people to till the land better. India needs more people to sweep the roads better. India also needs more people to clean the walls and floors of government and private office spaces. We also need more people to work on our construction sites. Yes, you are banned from any other type of job from today. Go earn a living in the ways I mentioned..oh and by the way, if by chance your kids turn out to be good at cricket , they will not be allowed to earn a contract in IPL. We don't want to waste their talent in IPL. We want to preserve them for Test cricket only. And we most definitely already know that you agree to this. Get real man!

Test Cricket will evolve towards more results than what we have today. Players also will evolve. And while we may be deprived of the mammoth innings played over 2 days scoring 124 not out in 450 balls of great fast bowling and spin bowling, we will not be deprived of the excitement in Test cricket. Test cricket has never been as exciting as it has been in the last 2 decades and this is primarily because of more aggressive bowling and aggressive batting. People have realized the best way to stop batsmen from scoring big runs is to get them out. ODI cricket is especially responsible for bringing this positive style of play into Test cricket. I've been watching Test cricket from 1985. Honestly 1998 - 2011 has been more exciting than 1985 - 1998. T20 style batting and bowling will add a new dimension to the overall development of the game. And I don't see any reason why I would not say in 2024 that Test cricket between 2011-2024 has been more exciting than 1998-2011.

I understand your thread. But how can you justify someone like Uthappa or Saurab Tiwary earning more than ever in just IPLs then what Dravid or Laxman would have ever earned in their international career. The flaw can only be fixed with BCCI awarding multi-crore central contracts. Currently Grade A contract for 1 year is 1 crore. In the IPL age, Grade A contract should be 50 crore. Grade B contract should be 25 crore. Grade C contract should be 15 crore. Which is more than affordable for BCCI considering their revenues from IPL. This will aspire young players to be Test cricketers knowing it will come with financial rewards. Unfortunately I just have feeling alot of BCCI's revenues is siphoned into private pockets.

But if they're good players they can adapt to any format. If they fail in t20, it just exposes them. Just look @ Ishant, people say IPL destroyed his bowling. He was out of sorts before the IPL and bang in IPL he got back his pace even touched 150+ kph a lot of times. IPL isn't spoiling the players.

Australia, England and South Africa central contract players get paid more than what their Indian counter-parts do. Obviously, the purchasing power is higher in India then the above countries but here is a comparison. Australia top contract: A$700,000 approx = US$700,000 India top contract: INR 1,00,00000 approx = US$225,000 India Test players are being paid more 3 times less than Australian Test players. This is poor oversight from BCCI, not everybody is Tendulkar or Dhoni who can earn millions from marketing. Not everybody will play for 10-15 years. If selectors really want India to dominate Test and ODI cricket, they need to reward players (and at the same time aspire others) justly. IPL might be 60 odd days, but for young cricketing talent it's a lifetime of money.
