Apparently, this guy wants to appear for Civil Services - in that case smart choice. or may be not as if he is good enough to top JEE, he would have cleared IAS written regardless of this choice.

Thats such a blanket statement and not even remotely true. Very different skills and very different motivations.

I based my statement on some real life example. Of course the sample size for such case is not going be very big, so it is more of extrapolation & perception- what skills you give importance too. If you care, you can elaborate on the drastically different skills required for IAS written. And which of the skills that help top the JEE are completely useless for IAS written. And I am not talking about maths/physics/chemistry etc. I am talking about 'bloody mindedness'/obsession, planning & execution....to go with basic aptitude.

Generations of them have been ridiculed for being Ta-ttas of IITD :-) But, I still can't believe why IIT-JEE topper would go for TT? Earlier I had heard of JEE topper opting for Aerospace engineering or going for integrated M Sc in Math. Can see some rationale behind those choices but TT at IITD is simply confounding.
ViruRulez Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I have always said that a person can succeed best in fields which he is interested in rather than in something which is forced on him/her. It sounds a bit odd but maybe he likes textiles and manufacturing and has business plans related to it. Who knows. Maybe 15 years down the line he will be competing with Bombay Dyeing with his own textile production line. It is about choice and interest rather than only the line. Good that he broke away from traditional choices and went for something that interests him instead.
