To me poor chap is allways in Kambli spot each time he goes to bat. Perform in that game or out of the team...

Former fat boy Patel's return to England's ODI and Twenty20 squads came with an immediate warning from coach Andy Flower that he must achieve minimum standards of fitness and form if he is going to make a long-standing return to international cricket. He is also poised to play five one-day internationals against Sri Lanka. Patel was axed from the team in November 2008 on grounds of being overweight, unfit and having a bad attitude. Swann, Patel's teammate at Trent Bridge who did not play for seven years after twice missing the team bus on the tour of South Africa in 1999-2000, believes that Samit’s indiscipline led to his downfall. “ Samit's had much-publicised problems with the fridge. I think he's going in the right direction but I certainly don't think he's there yet. It doesn't frustrate me, but it should frustrate him,” The Sun quoted Swann, as saying. “Actually, I suppose it does frustrate me - you just think, 'what an idiot'. But I suppose a lot of people thought the same about me for a long time. Its not just being overweight, it's the reluctance to buy into the discipline. I am sure he did not cut down on his curry. I respect the guy more now.. At least he did not went on licking Flowers feet...

One of the best batsmen in the country, the only thing that has let him down is his fitness. It was Kevin Pietersen who initially got him in. He wanted him and Owais Shah in the team, otherwise they were always over-looked.

Pagalpanti Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Honestly he is quite fat. But some hefty cricketers have done well haven't they. Ryder although not so obese is one of the best fielders. Inzamam was a decent batsman too.

Bopara could have still played as a batsman, but England feel they need another bowling option in these conditions.
