The Curious Case of Munaf Patel

Yaar Sid..sorry I went overboard, but problem to identify right guy and then give him a proper run. How many of you mentioned are talented enough to survive at international level. Need to give chances to not so useless guys and some one who has some attributes to success like pace or swing or skills like PK. And I dont understand why people were praising Munna so much, dont know why we have so short memory. He was not even given a chance in Test matches and was abused by every one after England match. He is not worth so much praise. He has not done anything to be talked about yet even in ODIs. Stats are good to an extent.

But the problem is its selectors job to identify the kind of bowling talent you are talking about,but it is apparent they arent doing their job,coz I m prety sure you know names of some uopcoming quickies that selectors wouldnt have heard of.Having said that I dont think there are lots of exceptional bowling talents present in domestic cricket. And Munaf is getting the praises becoz he has been one of our best ODI bowler since that tri series in SL in August.

Munaf NOW and THEN What frustates us all about Munaf is his bowling is not to far away from redemption, things he has lost which caused his demise as fast bowler,from being a slightly slingy round arm bowler, where he could get more swing, orthodox and reverse to being more high arm bowler, his average speed now and at debut is not too different, the difference being, 4 slow deliveries every over and no effort ball around 143 k that he would bowl.Now after modeling himself to a line and length bowler, what he has lost is not being considered as a strike bowler, he wil not take too many 5 wicket hauls also he is dependent on conditions more.He does'nt have a follow thru also doesnt use his height and wrist that much. Coming from humble beginnings and being confused after injury misguided by Chappel and co,he to me is India's Dilhara Fernando who promised much , in his case he did not give up on his pace , but did not mature enough or could figure out his body.Munaf was never a tearway per international standards, he was a fast medium with his height, reverse, bounce and fast arm could be India's go to guy with Zaheer.If he learns from his partner Zaheer , spend a season playing county work on his strengths , action and be a bit more fearless and gets out of the self preservation mode , he still has it in him to be a successfull test bowler.Munaf to me can be a more successfull test bowler then , RP, SREESANTH,NEHRA WHO SHOULD BE DONE AND DUSTED AS FAR AS TEST CRICKET.

I have said this before and I will say it again, Munaf's biggest enemy is his attitude. Even when he was a newcomer to the side as an attacking fast bowler, which thanks to stellar Indian management he is no more, the lackadaisical demeanor was evident. Now you see him screaming and shouting in the field while himself being the antithesis of what he expects others to be and somewhere it ticks the mind that is this guy right enough to be in the middle. I don't say fit enough or worthy enough, I say right enough to be in the middle. Frankly, I feel no.

Yes I have seen this happening more so lately with Munaf gestures, misfields or two runs concede instead of what he thinks was one only,Praveen does the same , Kumble also was bad at that, I havent seen Zaheer or Ishant do that much.MUNAF IS ONE OF THE VERY GENUINE GUYS IN THE TEAM , his teamates love him , he still is the simple guy , he is not often given the new ball, which he desrves ahead on kumar.He marches to his own drum , the big gripe I have about him is his being an under achiever in terms of his talent,he needs to learn a thing or two from Bond and Steyn how to serve his country by not being decidely , conciously mediocre also I believe Dhoni is one of the factors in causing our bowlers reclining fortunes
