Rana Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 they take zak to a completely different level:) i find it hilarious how england harp on about anderson being the best swing bowler in the world. a guy who has done NOTHING on the flat tracks of the sub continent. he's a conditions bowler. whereas zak...... a master on a cloudless hot day on a flat track. if ishu can find his aus 2007 form and sree can keep the demons out of his head, our bowlers will be the surprise package this series. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

They had come here expecting they can just release the ball and the wicket and the famed English conditions would do the rest for them. But Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel and Sreesanth have been left feeling like they are bo wling on a flat track in the subcontinent. The Indians have been greeted at Taunton by typical English weather. There was a heavy cloud cover and a strong wind but the ball refused to swing as the Somerset batsmen amassed 425 for three in 96 overs. Munaf Patel and Sreesanth are gifted with natural outswingers, and Zaheer is one of the best exponents of the craft. Hence, their ineffectiveness in conditions tailor-made for them was a bit surprising. It is not something only the Indian bowlers are puzzled about, the pacers all around the county circuit are confused with the behavior of the Duke ball. Most have not been able to get the ball to move. Mastering it to do so could well be the key to the India versus England series. “This year, this red ball hasn’t swung in the county circuit, let’s see how it goes in the Test series,†former India left-arm spinner Murali Karthik, who plays for Somerset, told the Hindustan Times. “In this match also it didn’t happen. Last season, the ball was swinging. Everybody is trying to analyse for the last three months but it;s not happening,†said Karthik, who is in his seventh year in county cricket. Usually, Karthik said, the Indians don’t have a problem with the Duke ball as it is quite similar to the SG ball, which they use at home. “It’s quite similar to SG; it’s a good, hard ball with a prominent seam. For a spinner, the ball is drifting and arm ball is swinging but don’t know about the seamers.†If it doesn’t swing, then the advantage will be with England. It will take out the skill advantage which the Indian bowlers have. The bounce factor will still remain.
achilles Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I have a funny feeling that Zaheer's statement (er... mental disintegration tactic) is going to come back and haunt him this tour. “The fact that Andrew Strauss is here playing in this practice game says it all. There is definitely that element of doubt in his mind and he has given me that edge now going into the series,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by the ‘Daily Mirror’. “A guy who wants to come and face a particular bowler who he knows is troubling him is in itself a sign. I feel that as a captain it is not a positive move for someone who is going to lead England. “He has shown the opponent exactly what it is he is thinking. It has been a good contest between us and as a bowler I’ve always felt that if I can provide that early breakthrough it definitely puts the team in the driving seat. so that is my aim on this tour as well,” he added. Strauss made 78 on the opening day of the three-day match between the touring Indians and Somerset yesterday. Talking about the series, Zaheer rejected talk that India were under pressure to prove their status as the world No. 1 Test team. “There is no burden on our team to prove anything. If we play good cricket we will win matches and then everything else will take care of itself,” he reasoned. “I’ve got confidence from the previous tours I’ve had here as well as the county season I played, which makes me familiar with conditions,” Zaheer added. The Indian pace spearhead said he enjoys bowling in English conditions and expects to do well in the Test series starting July 21 at the Lord’s. “I’ve always enjoyed playing here, the conditions are good for my kind of bowling. Whenever the weather is good it definitely provides that little bit extra for the seamers, which I really enjoy. “This year I’m also looking to do the same thing as in 2007, I will use this practice game to get my body going and get into the zone, then carry on from there,” he said. On whether the series would also be about verbal volleys, Zaheer said, “in the last series you could see how hurt they were when the whole jelly bean thing happened because they lost the series.” “It is up to them how far they want to push it and whether they want to cross the line or not. I am very clear, I want to play the game in the right spirit and I don’t think by doing that they had shown the right spirit of the game,” he added. “I want to fight hard on the field and that is the way I will be playing it in this series as well. As a bowler I’m very confident and the way things are panning out, it will be a big series and we’re looking forward to the contest.”

Where Murli Karthik has suggested the Duke ball hasn't not swung at all in the current county season compared to last year. And by judging the SL tests, SL were more ousted by pace and bounce of Tremlett then swing.

Chandan Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Indian bowling didn't look as healthy and in shape as all of us had expected. Zaheer failed to take even one wicket of even the relatively unknown county batsmen, Sreesanth was wayward as usual but this time he looked unfit as well as he seemed to have put on a lot of weight. As for Munaf, he was accurate and econnomical but hardly threatening as he too failed to take even one wicket And if we do not get wickets, we are not going to win. Batting isn't going to drag bowling this time as there is no Sehwag, Dravid blows hot and cold, Laxman has never had a ton in England and Sachin and Gambhir are coming after long lay off!! Things are not looking very bright.

Yes he bowls around 77-80 and that's a weakeness of his game. But I would ALWAYS prefer a guy who can bowl it at 77-80 and swing the ball around both ways with very good control and length than a guy who can bowl it at 85 but bowls it straight.

Don't want additional headache for Dhoni in the first test itself when he is already trying to sort out his spin bowling department by including UV and Raina..
