But regarding Fletcher what has he brought to the team in terms of tactics and management? The entire management is in total disarray - every single team regular is out of form except Dravid. The players on England that Fletcher is suppose to be an expert on are destroying the team at will. In 3 months from being on top of the world with the WC and a gritty test draw in SA and a near ODI series win with a very depleted squad it appears these guys have forgotten to play cricket with their new coach. Whats the story with Fletcher? If there is one team he is suppose to be an expert on its England and is I cant remember since 07 in Pakistan when i saw such a bad test series by India. This guy is making a boat load of money and he may turn out to be even worse than Chappell. The hell with the queen. God save India Test Team.

jhakati Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 everyone on this board knew fletcher was an awful choice and screww BCCI for this. he is not 100% responsible for the performance, but no doubt many small details like field placing, team selection, batting order etc. which someone like kirsten influenced, this fatty has no clue

Fletcher was known as a planner who out thinks and out plans opposition teams but to me he has been exposed by flower in this series so far. There just seems to be no gameplan against the various English batsmen. The only gameplan I have seen eventuate for India is to attack Swann, which has actually worked. Where are the specific field settings? The setting up of batsmen as Raina and Yuvraj were set up? And to think Duncan Fletcher should know all these batsmen and their strengths/weaknesses more than anybody else on the planet. He championed quite a few of the English batsman into the side so he should know them more intimatley than most. Instead he has been thoroughly outplanned, outthought and outclassed by Flower & Co. There were easy runs given to English batsmen to ease the pressure on various stages in past two weeks.I saw bresnan get 4 after 4 through covers and Bell had a free ride through point and third man. Its criminal to let a team score 4.5/5 runs an over esp when they are under pressure. PK and Ishant bowled well mostly and deserved better but field placings let them down. On batting front so many batsmen getting bounced out is another thing that a man like fletcher should have seen coming but the way raina and yuvi looked clueless means they was no planning on how to deal with short pitch bowling.

Captain are prone to losing their composure and gameplan in the heat of a battle and thats where coach comes into it.On 3rd day of last test India conceded 440 runs and there was no visible alteration in game plan.

He might have a game plan. But any amount of game plan you do, the players need to execute it. EG: (I am giving this example not to show you down, but may be this might strike closer) 2003 WC game of India vs Pak. Do you want to tell me that there was no plan decided by the Pak players and coaches during the innings break ? Definitely there was, but the whole bowling line up was clueless and could not execute it.

Utalk Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 There is a difference between an ODI and a test match.Sachin won that game in first 15 overs and we had no time to recover. In a test match you will often see a team is 300/2 on day one only to get bowled out for 400 the day after.
