Kumar Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 1995 was the year I began watching cricket, an amused boy whos first game to watch was the ashes, SCG, contest between two nations who were classified in history as the best! The game was a draw but one thing stuck into me, and it was great bowling display all round, 5iver for mcdermott and a 6er for gough ( mind you not the best bowlers of the decade, but still very very good), watching this made me realise how beautiful it was, the art of bowling, and I ronically at that time, I though these two guys were among the best... how wrong was I!!!!! At that stage i never heard of greats like Ambrose, Walsh, Waqar, Akram, Donald, Kumble, Pollock, Mcgrath and soon to be warne and muttiah, a defying era for bowling as the huge diversity of excellent bowling made it a competitive and fun era to watch cricket. The 2000's proved to be somewhat else good, but a level below, but new faces came rising up quickly, Akhtar, Harbhajan, Lee and soon to be steyn! But recently there has been a huge decline in bowling departments across the cricket world. Nations have lost key players and their bowling attacks compared to previous ones a decade ago looks mediocre. Sri Lanka's bowling attack has went downhill hugely with the loss of Murali, Vaas and of recent times with IPL Malinga! The Aussi's with Lee, Warne and Mcgrath. Pakistanis with you know who, Indian bowling attack looks medicore of recent and most likely will continue at that, West indies etc Even the saffies par Steyn dont have anything significant in their bowling, and it is this decline in bowling which I think will have on overall decline on the level of international cricket for some time! Times will be tough in the future for cricket and bowling as there will soon be a rough patch in it, especially with the likes of T20 having an influence, the IPL dragging stars, and in general the level of test cricket which will decline for some nations. Though I admire the English for their persistence and their level of motivation which goes into every test, as par them I cant see much future for bowling or cricket in general (tests), and when the likes of Dravid, Tendulkar, Kallis and Ponting leave only natural to think cricket and team standards will drop! Enjoy the time left with some form of competitive cricket, as sooner rather than later this slump will happen and happen at an effective rate as i do hope standards improve but as the way it looks.... I can see the opposite happening very soon!
