Do you think the legacy of SRT will be hurt by this series!

His average has declined because of this series so I don't think there is any case to be made that England have had the wood on SRT. They haven't. You got a 38 year old batsman in the absolute twilight of his career out a few times' date=' if you want to feel great about it considering your apology of a cricket history, I won't begrudge you that. Have fun. :winky:[/quote'] WTF? No-one said anything about England having the wood on SRT. Rather the premise was that England has been SRT's whipping team. Either you can't read properly or you're deliberately twisting the thread

Well even if we put the Don (rightfully so) ahead of SRT' date=' I still don't think that my statement was far off the mark. The rest of the guys you are putting up are mere straw men to strengthen your argument. Even those players have acknowledged that SRT is ahead of them.[/quote'] So you'll be providing some quotes from Sutcliffe, Headley etc to prove your point, will you? Have you ever even heard of them?

Adding to the little debate going on in this thread: Statistically sachin can be called the greatest modern batsman. However, I believe several others are greater. Viv comes to mind. Like that other guy I say Lara is about equal (though I'm sure you all disagree because of 'the stats')

Heck, if India manage to salvage an unlikely draw today, you can kid yourself that they've had a great series

Why would I need to disprove anything when we only have a claim from you that they are better. Unless you have watched headley or sutcliffe bat (which I doubt very much) there is only one place where this claim is coming from, your ****. I see that you have already found it important to knock my cricketing knowledge since you couldn't come up with anyway to substantiate those batsmen are better other than your tall claims.

Of course, we can pull all those stats of England's cricketing history from the 19th century when there was only one opposition in the world. Bravo England!! Well played. Pathetic...

Pathetic...[/quote'] the thing i dont get is... i agree England have had the better of us (by a long way)... but just because of that they talking as if they been dominating us for a long time..... when was the last time b4 this series that they dominated us?... on top.... cricket is a sport, every team have their ups and downs... i think the downs that we have faced this series is a wake up call.. and we should take it positively and learn from the mistakes. Kick out the useless players/ bring in new players... still have the likes of Rahul/Sachin/VVS/Dhoni/Gambhir.. and work around them...... play fit players.. bring in new pace bowlers... kick out the likes of RP, Sree, Bhajji for good.. and things will get better... I know we have performed poorly.. but one series loss/win doesn't determine a team... and I am still optimistic about our changes in the forthcomming test tours.. thats if BCCI can learn the mistkeas they have made and the players start taking responsility and pride in their game. !!..

Great batsman as he is, Don Bradman leaves him for dead, as do several other batsman. He's never aggregated 500 in a series and never will.
Please check and see how many 5 match test series Sachin has played in comparison to Lara, Pontoing, Viv, Bradman, etc. Most of India's test series during Sachin's prime were 2 or 3 test series. That does make a huge difference when compared to a 5 match test series Yes, he could have still made 500 runs in those series, but you have to agree that the odds weren't stacked equally

SRT has played more Tests than any man in history and has had ample opportunity. Bell and Pietersen have managed it in this series in 6 inns...............

You were the one making the claims about SRT. I knew you couldn't prove it, which is why you've changed the subject (just like you did about someone supposedly saying England had the wood on SRT)

You haven't brought anything to the table to disprove my claims about SRT's greatness other than claims about Headley and Sutcliffe. And I see that you haven't watched them play so it was just a tall claim like I thought. As far as the question of England having wood on SRT is concerned I replied to your earlier post where you mentioned his average in England is lower than his career average. I really think you should get some perspective instead of just spouting drivel. :winky:

++ e.g. Ind vs Aus 2010 - he made 400+ runs in 2 matches. And with the red hot form he was in, he could have scored at least another 200 runs in 3 more matches. - given that Aussie did not have their best bowling attack and further down the series they would have been even more demoralized. And there have been quite a few more such examples.

Again there is a difference between individual matches and series. A player playing 5 match series is more likely to score 500. As for this series, if Sachin had played the attack Bell had, he might have scored 1000

You said SRT was the best batsman ever to play the game, I said Bradman beats him by a country mile, I've seen nothing from you to either prove your own claim or disprove mine. I'll stick by my claim, thanks ever so. As for the laughable attempt at rewriting what was said about SRT v England, someone said England are SRT's whipping boys, I replied that his average against them was lower than his career average and that he'd won 4 (out of 9) series against them. That hardly looks like he's been doing too much whipping. You then tried to argue that I'd said Englandd had the wood on SRT, which I didn't. He's clearly been slightly less effective against them than he has on average. Perhaps our definition of 'whipping' differs?

I'll stick by my claim, thanks ever so.[/quote'] I agreed that bradman was better purely based on his phenomenal average. Apart from that I doubt very much that either of us can prove one way or another if anyone else can claim to be better than SRT. Frankly most people who have watched cricket across the various decades place SRT at second place. Quite frankly I will take their word over yours. If you want to claim Headley or Sutcliffe are better when you haven't watched them bat (astonishing stupidity) then you are welcome. LOL at laughable attempt, oh the irony. I responded very clearly to you when I said that his average has declined post this series where your bowlers have been able to get an ageing Tendulkar out a few times. If you want to crow about it and say that England have not been beaten to pulp on earlier occasions by Tendulkar I admire your capacity for delusion. Anyhow i think I am done with this argument as you haven't got anything interesting or useful to say. Cheerio.

As for this series' date=' if Sachin had played the attack Bell had, he might have scored 1000[/quote'] He's played in plenty of series where other players have managed it, and he's played in series where someone from his own side has managed it (Dravid, twice). You don't even have to play 5 Tests, plenty of players have managed it in 4. Recently, Yousuf, Gooch and Lara have all managed it in 3. Bradman only took 5 inns.
