Deleted_User_1 Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I know one series is hardly a metric to judge someone's career and I still think he is best batsman of modern day cricket, I cannot imagine this cannot NOT hurt. After a meteoric rise from the dead over the last 3 years which culminated in the euphoria of the WC win, it was perfect time to bow out on top. But, he decidedly to carry on...fair enough. But this was one anticipated series and when the eyes were on him, he did not deliver. Not just failure, but looked completely out of sorts like he is in a deep slump. I am wondering what he is going to do next? Call it quits or fight his way out to the top again. Unfortunately, the Aussie tour is the last major overseas tour that we can salvage some pride back because after that India is going to play at home for a while. Great opportunity missed and will give the critics ammunition to say that he did not perform well against the best in tough conditions. (:((

ali0786 Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 No it will not hurt his legacy. Sachin is one of the greatest batsman ever. For me he is the best I have seen in my time. Although I do think he should have retired on a high note after the world cup, because a player like him deserves to go out on a high note for what he has achieved.

Don't forget Sachin is in his late 30's now you can't expect him to be scoring huge amount of runs all the time now.

You think Lara or Ponting never "sucked so hard in an ENTIRE series"?

But what baffles me his refusal to be flexible when team demands. For ex: We have seen Lax consistently failing at #3 in England, and he is best suited for #5 yet Sachin sticks to his #4 position.

This guys is the greatest batsman to have ever set foot on a cricket field. We should all have been so ****ing privileged to have seen his genius at work. Go ask what Nas, Boycott and Beefy think of the little chap.

The luck hasn't gone his way this series, he's been out when he has looked in great touch. Just a matter of sticking it out and knowing the big one is just around the corner. His dip in form would have gone unnoticed if the rest were scoring but when only one bloke is scoring runs and given Sachin is the best in the world for quite a long time questions will always be asked. One or two bad knock by Sachin will never go unnoticed let alone 7 in a row.That is the cost you pay for being the best.
King Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I remember going to watch one good inning from Lara all over NZ some years ago, inning after inning he struggled to score a fifty while the likes of Sarwan and Chanderpaul were getting plenty of runs. Funny game cricket is.

It is not an individual's decision. May be he could have volunteered, but surely he is not the only one to blame.

And he decides not only where he will bat but also whether India will use the DRS. He also never takes first strike when he opens in ODIs.
