He knows all the strokes against Swann, but he is hesitant in playing them since he has the fear of losing his wicket. He is a free flowing batsman who loves to play his strokes that need not be orthodox. But the need of the hour is to play a sensible innings. He is taking far too much pressure on himself and he feels that a Test innings means to block instead of slogging, which is not the case. He would have torn Swann apart had it been a T20 as he has the license to go for the shots which comes naturally to him. He is doing what Dhoni did in the last few years - Curb his natural instincts and look to play a "subdued" innings. He will be at his best, only if he plays the game that comes naturally to him. He can't play the waiting game, he has to play an attacking game even though he is asked to save a day for the team. His mind starts thinking too much when he defends a ball.
Sidhoni Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 He started out well in this tour hitting a century against Somerset, but just lost his form after that, and he must have played Murali a lot of times in nets during the IPL, so he definitely has experience of facing good spin bowling, and he has done well in the past against spinners but he just cannot play Swann for some reason.
