I wanted people to vote based on their experience and what they see around them (at work, with friends, relatives, family etc). Vibhash has posted about what he saw at his hostel and that is what I wanted to hear about from people (i.e. their experience).

Those people who think people in India do not follow Test cricket or like it are just as silly. If you live in India you will know that Test cricket has enough people supporting it. Now you may not find stadiums full in all centers however you will find cricinfo scorecard open in all offices right from the level of an intern to the CEO when a Test match is going on. You will also find people in chai tapris and shops asking you what's the score (just in case they are not watching it on their TVs) when you go there to buy something. Just as silly as people who think temporal events do not influence poll results. Either these people do not have an understanding of the nuances of poll / "voice" gathering studies or are just yapping off because they want to take an opposite view of the people who express their "silly" opinions.

not idiotic by far,you come to rural towns and villages people are still follow cricket ,they might not watch but do follow in newspapers and news.in orissa i can say ranji games get good attendances.

I have had people in my family who have followed test cricket through newspapers, radios and finally TVs almost since India started playing test cricket. Even within my family they don't have the time anymore. My uncles and my dad who played cricket at a reasonable level don't even know what series is going on sometime. I think it is naive to think that just because 400 members here yap about test cricket everyone back in India has the time or inclination to watch 5 days of cricket.

My dad was a keen follower of Test cricket (also ODI cricket but particularly Test matches), which is where I got my love of Test cricket from. However, no one else in our (extended) family is hugely interested in cricket (leave alone Test cricket), but they will follow World Cup and ODIs against Pakistan somewhat. Amongst my friends, very few are interested in Test cricket, and even from those, few are as emotionally invested into it as I am.

What exactly is your larger point? In case you live in India and actually work here in a firm where you have access to internet, please tell me when was the last time that you found a Test game happening where India was involved and not even 10% of the office was checking the score on the internet or seemed interested in the game? I have been working for the last 13 yrs now and I don't remember a single Test including against Bangladesh in Nov/Dec 2000 when my colleagues were not interested in knowing what was happening on the field of play. Try answering the question instead of going off on a tangent claiming idiocy of others. Don't think mouthing off and making some funny gestures will make your point, sunshine.

I work in an office in India and there were 3 guys (including me) out of our wing size of 60 were interested in the score. I had to inform people of the score and match situation before ranting about our pathetic performance.

I think we need to differentiate our level of following the game with that of others. We are basically fanatics in a sense - we actually take time off from our lives to post on cricket forums. We are what you can call evergreen cricket fans who will remain interested in cricket (formats notwithstanding) immaterial of results on field. We follow Ire v/s Afg too. We are a diff animal. The general fan may not be as informed as us when it comes to the latest happenings in the cricket world but does that mean they are not interested in the game...that is hard to tell. Immaterial of the level of interest that ppl have in the game, I have never come across one day in my professional life that there weren't online cricket scorecards open on the machines of my colleagues in the last 13 yrs when India played a Test. During iconic series like the Ind-Aus 2001 and Ind-Pak 2004 ones the Managers just gave up trying to hold meetings or get things done. It was kinda understood that work will happen only after 6 PM. Even on dull days like the Indo-Ban one off in Nov 2000 or the early morning Ind-NZ 2002 Test series, there would be ppl keeping track of the score. I remember the whole bloody office was at the bakery in March 2001 at around 5 PM soon after Bhajji spun India to a win at Cal against Aus. Man, you just could not work man...it was so damn difficult to do any work during those few sessions of play.

However, I am certain, Most Indian did wanted us to win series but the fact is that we all will forget this series as soon as team land in Australia.... Test lovers need to grow up.... And most importantly English should grow up and go and try to win a ICC world cup..
