Can I buy one and install my self? any of guys here have suggestions? I dont think any STB will work. Ask your cable guy and find out which box works for your connection. Usually they should give you one box when you get the connection or replace it when its damaged.
ganeshran Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Why do you want a STB for cable? Its better to go for DTH
Holysmoke Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Asked Cable guy he is telling out of stock for months... Offer to pay more than market price and see what happens.
bulbul Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 thanks for the sugessions Guys...I tried SP road abnd other Places but not STB not available anyware... @ holy...not going to pay more than Market price...Anna hazare still in news.. :) @ Ganesh, I am leaving in a small room..only fo this year..puttting s DTH is bit headache...any way i need TV mainly for Cricket so can manage.. @ Kubrican...u r tight ...we also need to know the Frequency in which the perticuler cable runs something..
ganeshran Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Why do you need STB for cable? Do you not get cricket channels without it? Or is it for the better clarity? If its for clarity then DTH really is the best way to go.
Shane Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Analog to Digital signal conversion, the clarity is better and you get the whole lot of channels for the basic price, unlike the ponzi schemes and subscriptions the DTH operators offer these days. I think this would be the way to go until competition drives down HD service rates, thats when DTH would be a more attractive option.

All channels (including HD) + 12 Pay-Per-View movies for 5300 is not too bad. If you get all channels from your cablewaala, it will cost you something similar. Plus he wont be able to offer HD or PPV movies. Watching the world cup ad-free in HD was a real experience. 5300 udhar hi vasool ho gaya. :--D

I am keen on HD, I inquired with Tata Sky too about their package, they quoted me 550 per month for most of their top channels + HD and an additional 100 bucks for each TV. So that comes to around 750 for me per month. Annually if I subscribe nearly 8500. Whereas I have to pay my cablewallah, around 3000 a year for three TV connections (all channels). I am tempted by HD, but I think I will wait till the competition heats up with the DTH players. Moreover the cablewal;ah is a friend, we used to play cricket against each other. :D

bulbul Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 But how abt India? tata sky is sate service isnt it? you mean safe... i dont think there are much differences between major operators... in india only handful of HD channels currently available... http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-08-14/india/29886316_1_airtel-dth-channels-dvb-s-2
