Mooney guides Ireland to victory

A nerveless final over from John Mooney secured Ireland a two-run win over Kenya and a 3-0 success in the Twenty20 series. Having made a modest 107 for nine, Ireland started well in the field only for Collins Obuya (42) and Tanmay Mishra (37) to give the hosts a chance. Seven were needed off the last over and Mooney conceded just four, as well as taking a wicket. Ireland's innings started in the worst possible fashion, with Paul Stirling run out off the first ball of the day without facing. Only Gary Wilson, with 32 off 38 balls, and Ed Joyce, who scored 38 off 46, reached double figures as Shem Ngoche returned four for 14. Tailender Boyd Rankin (seven not out) nudged the side past three figures but the total looked a small one. Rankin and George Dockrell - who was superb with two for 13 in four overs - each struck with the new ball to leave Kenya six for two before Obuya and Mishra added 53 runs for the third wicket. Rankin returned to clean bowl Obuya, and Andrew White accounted for Mishra to set up the tense finale. Mooney removed Alex Obanda with the third ball of the 20th over and, with three needed for the win and two for the tie, delivered a dot ball to secure victory.

Kenya, Uganda meet in WCT20 warm-ups

Kenya are to host regional rivals Uganda in five matches in their build up for this month's ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates, cricket officials said. Both Kenya and Uganda will play in Group B at the March 13-24 tournament, which will also involve 14 other Associate and Affliate sides, after which only two teams will advance to the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September. Kenya played and lost all three T20 matches against Ireland, who will also compete in the same group in Dubai, when the two teams met in Mombasa last month and the hosts are keen for some victory ahead of the global qualifiers. "We look forward to competitive matches against a strong Ugandan team that has performed well recently to help our team prepare for the qualifiers," said Cricket Kenya chief Tom Sears.

Kenya-Namibia ties postponed

Namibia's tour of Kenya next month has been postponed due to security concerns after a recent spate of grenade attacks in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. A recent attack on a church near the Gymkhana Club in Nairobi, where the matches were scheduled to take place, left one person dead and fifteen others injured. The attacks are thought to be a response to the Kenyan government's decision to send troops into southern Somalia. It is thought that the series will now be played in Mombasa in September, the location of Kenya's matches against Ireland earlier this year. Security concerns initially threatened cancellation of that tour too, before an ICC security report gave Ireland the OK to tour. This will be the second time Namibia have had an Intercontinental Cup match postponed, after confusion over visas delayed their match against Ireland last year.

Cricket Kenya announces contracts for 2012-13

Cricket Kenya has announced its list of contracted players for 2012-13. The 20 players named in the list have agreed to the contracts, unlike last year when five players turned them down on grounds of insufficient compensation. Cricket Kenya's chief executive Tom Sears said: "Cricket Kenya is delighted to announce that 20 players have agreed National contracts. We have great faith in the players selected, they are a young squad and will need time to reach their full potential, but they have an enormous amount of ability and given time there is no reason why this squad can't start producing the results we all hope to see. "The process of renewing the contracts has been extremely simple this year which has been refreshing, I would commend the players for choosing to represent themselves as opposed to be influenced by third parties, and on the way they have conducted themselves throughout the process. All discussions have been very open and constructive which bodes well for the future." Contracts list: Ragheb Aga, Duncan Allan, James Ngoche, Shem Ngoche, Alex Obanda, Collins Obuya, Nehemiah Odhiambo, Nelson Odhiambo, Irfan Karim, Ibrahim Akello, Alfred Luseno, Peter Kituku, Dominic Wesonga, Morris Ouma, Lucas Oluoch, Elijah Otieno, Rakep Patel, Hiren Varaiya, Seren Waters, Emmanuel Bundi.
