Pred, if you feel like that about Gambhir, I wonder how you feel about Kaif. The guy has scored against decent opposition in Tests when all else has failed, and finds himself out, not just of the team but of the squad, and very, very far from selectorial consideration. IMO, that's one guy who is truly luckless.

Good post Predator. GG's mindset is a lot like Sehwag's. He aims to make time spent at the crease count i.e. score runs and not indulge in the typical 'tuk-tuk' batting. But he also has a propensity to throw his wicket away with a rash shot (9 times out of 10 it's a pull). If he can slightly temper his rash aggression, he can be an awesome asset at the top.
