carnish Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 this is why i decided to refrain from this discussion... it takes up a lot of time arguing on the basis of mere opinions which are basically different to each individual. And usually people use stupid stats like RPT and all to prove they are correct... even in the other thread i was only replying to ganesharan and not others after a while. Its nice to discuss indian cricket and cricketeers but to compare between two or maybe three best batsman we ever produced by smear basis of stats is stupid... its just someone likes one of the fab 4 better than the rest.... everyone has their favourite cricketeers... mine is sourav but i cannot go on and claim he is the best... similarly i like laxman and dravid better... its just that i am more assured when i see those two bat and thats the only thing i had said in the previous thread too which was turned into an issue making me anti-SRT... and therefore i wished it better to refrain from these discussions... I chickened out... lol:giggle:

But I won't put that it was decidedly better than all of Sachin's innnings. But then there are many things which Sachin does easily and Laxman can't at all. So no need to put one over other. The fact that I find annoying in all these discussions is, why any statement regarding greatness of any Indian batsman has to be followed by rhetoric of, can Sachin match that? At times I feel people from league of Sachin Fanatic Sucks follow Sachin more than the Sachin Fanatics. Sachin fanatics like me find it very easy to celebrate even a little success of Sachin, while anti Sachin Fanatics always have to work hard, like inventing RPT, to find problems with that celebration.

Here are some other of VVS's 2nd inning(3rd or 4th match innings) heroics which helped India win close games outside of Eden 281 and Durban 96. Mohali 73* vs Aus Port of Spain 74 vs WI Perth 79 vs Aus Colombo 103* vs SL Johhanesburg 73 vs SA Mumbai 69 vs Aus. Chennai 66 vs Aus It will be very tough to come up with such a list for any of the batsman in team wins like the ones VVS had in recent memory. Instead of making it a comparison between players why can't we accept that VVS has been the best man to perform under crisis in which we won close games. Absolutely. As some one pointed out, in one of his Interviews VVS said that he loves to bat and tackle the pressure situation and win/save it for the team.
