Magneto
:haha: and its funny I am taking Rohit's side' date=' as I like Kohli's attitude, but yes I like Rohit's technique more and want to see him playing tests.[/quote'] They'll both eventually find their places under the sun and lead India. We'll have to wait and watch who finally does a better job. Link to comment
Karan114
People are saying Kohli will play' date= but i found it rather odd how Rohit came in earlier than Kohli. Not a good choice if Kohli is to play. I would want my number 6 to face as many balls as possible. Just a theory on my part. Yeah, that's a bit surprising. Link to comment
VRV Singh
I said when Rohit was named in the squad that I wanted him in the XI at Melbourne. I think it would be a great move. However if they keep faith in Kohli I don't really have a problem. At least his competitor will be pushing hard. Link to comment
chainsmoker1985
Tomorrow, will be another practice game and hopefully with a more competitive side. And good thing is it will be a 3 day game, so it will give enough time to the bowlers and batters as well. And Bad news is Ishant might not play in tomorrows practice match Link to comment
Karan114
Rohit ready. Should he be picked? Not in competition with Rohit: Kohli Press Trust of India Last updated on Monday, 19 December 2011 Canberra: Promising middle-order batsman Virat Kohli doesn't see any competition with compatriot Rohit Sharma on the ongoing Australian tour or in near future as he has little doubt that both would be serving the Indian team in the days to come. The two steadied India's innings with an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 78 as they progressed to 162 for four in their three-day warm-up match against Cricket Australia's Chairman's XI here on Monday. "We know in future we are going to play for the team so I don't see any competition in that, it's just a matter of who gets to play when, who gets into that zone and start scoring runs," Kohli said after his unbeaten 55 at the Manuka Oval in the run-up to the four-match Test series starting December 26. "I kept being asked this question, there is always competition for a particular spot in the team. You've 2-3 good players waiting to grab the chance." While Kohli's consistency over the past one year has helped him stake claim for the number six spot, Sharma, after his brilliant batting display against the West Indies recently, is giving the Delhi lad competition. "We (Rohit and himself) have had some good stands together. It's good for Indian cricket, in future when the situation arises, then we have a better understanding. It's a healthy competition and it's good for the team." Kohli, who batted ahead of Sharma at number four on Monday, termed his knock as useful in view of the upcoming Test series. "It was good to get a knock out there. Especially going up the order was much better. It was a practice game and you needed good work-out against seam bowlers as well, and then there were spinners. Going in pretty early when the ball was reasonably new was a help. When the ball gets old on this kind of wicket, it becomes batting paradise. "Even in nets, we try to use new balls as much as we can since old Kookaburra balls come on to the bat very nicely. Ball doing a bit can really prepare you well." Kohli has a feeling that the Australian batsmen would have to work hard to come to terms with the Indian bowling. "We have bowlers who can bowl quick like Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav and then we have guys like Zaheer Khan, Vinay Kumar and Abhimanyu Mithun who can swing it. They can bowl consistently in the right area and use up pace as well. So they (Australians) would have to work hard against us to score runs against in the series." Australian cricket is going through a transitional phase after the retirements of some of the biggest names in world cricket. "They have new players. You can't probably compare their skills with the team which dominated previously. It always takes time for youngsters in the team to come together." Kohli, however, had no doubt that the Aussies would be still be overtly aggressive against the Indians. "You cant change their mindset which is aggressive. We know they would try their level best. It would be a well-competed series. We can't take them lightly since they still have good bowlers and batsmen in the side who can turn the game around." http://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/news/item/182689-not-in-competition-with-rohit-kohli Link to comment

chainsmoker1985
Virat Kohli is not out on 55 on day 1 of practice match and Rohit Sharma is not out on 38. There are some quality bowlers in CA chairman eleven team like Doug Bollinger and Peter George and Jon Holland. Seems like both are in race for the first test. I don't think that anyone of Virat and Rohit has the upper hand at the moment. It will be a toss up between both of them coz both are scoring runs Link to comment
Dravid_TheWall
This is why Kohli accelerated when he had already made 100 in WI ODI, it was to stop Rohit making a ton. Rohit was left unbeaten on 90 I think. Rohit should play next test. Kohli has potential for test cricket but Rohit looks more class and ready for me right now. Link to comment

It is not just about looking good, Rohit will be a better test player, he looks more composed at crease now. Kohli failed in WI tests over there when the pitches had something, then scored couple of 50's on indian pattas, doesn't make him in form in my opinion. Rohit should still be ahead. He deserves the first opportunity. Link to comment

India had already won and he should have allowed Rohit to finish it off. Instead he went after everything which was very out of character. Link to comment

ODI's and tests are compeletely different ball game. We have already learned the hard way by trying likes of UV and Raina. Don't get me wrong, I think Kohli will make it as a test player and he is good but I think Rohit is very special. I cannot say I have noticed that weakness in Rohit, he used to be over confident but now I feel he knows his game well. Link to comment

Most likely Virat will get to continue his run in first test, unless Rohit scores a big one tomorrow. But its sad to see that Rohit hasn't got any chance yet, given his spectacular performances from WI tour onwards, selectors missed a point by not giving him chance in tests against WI, instead stuck around with likes of Raina/Yuvi..
