bulbul Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 On Headlines today and Aaj Tak. No, he is still in India. He was actually complaining on the news channels that he has played 4 first class games this season in Ranji and he has not seen a single selector. He said that selectors just pick a random guy, thats it he may be thinking Selectors will come and watch him play..:giggle:

gult Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Irfan is a far better choice than dinda... dinda has nothing except a bit of pace, domestic record isn't that impressive. Irfan would be very useful in aussie conditions as an allrounder because of his good batting technique, swing bowling and past experience.

Magneto Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Dinda should not be sent now. Bengal has an important Ranji match to win to prevent being relegated. :P
chainsmoker1985 Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 Totally agree. And if we have Irfan then we can play 5 bowlers But the question is, eventually are we going to play 5 bowlers?? If yes, then sure, Irfan is the man. Even I like Irfan a lot coz he is the best man to fill the all-rounders slot.

Even I like Irfan a lot coz he is the best man to fill the all-rounders slot.[/quote']Well, he gives us that option...and the fact that he gives us that he opens up that option may actually result in our management opening its mind up to that possibility and take him in. I feel in many cases that if 6 batsmen cannot get you runs then it is very likely the seventh also wont. Viru-Lax and Dhoni should be 6 batsmen with Irfan coming at 7. An ideal Test side will have 5 batsmen, one AR, one Wikky who can bat and 4 bowlers. The best thing with Irfan in is that it would allow us to play all our 3 bowlers who are in form - Ummu, Ash, and Ojha. Irfan would allow us to play our 4 best bowling options and given that he is a swinger primarily he can come good against Aus. We won the Perth test in similar fashion

Needforspeed Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Totally agree. And if we have Irfan then we can play 5 bowlers irfan used to be an allrounder. He has returned to FC cricket after a long lay-off. This season in 5 innings he has scored a total of 81 runs with a highest of 27 and average of 16.20. How does this qualify him as an allrounder. Even Rahul Sharma (Ave 31) and Mithun (38) have much better averages than him. If Irfan has to be in the side, it has to be purely as a bowler and anyway India is not going to go with 5 bowlers.

I suspect though, that Irfan can bowl a bit.

We dont need him to score a cent but a good 30-40 is decent enough for a number 7 batsman. I am not sure how much more can we expect out of Virat or Rohit...ok maybe we can expect them to score say 60-70. But for 30 runs less we can get one full bowler which is especially a good risk mitigation coz Zak may break down half way during a game Edit - And more importantly if we cannot trust these names - Viru, Gauti, Rahul, Sachin, and Lax - to get us runs then who can we? Besides bowling is our weakness and these buggers can take up that extra bit of responsibility to make runs. We need all the help we can get in the bowling dept
Needforspeed Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Dinda should not be sent now. Bengal has an important Ranji match to win to prevent being relegated. :P :winky: :cantstop: I understand your feelings. You want Irfan to be selected and Dinda to play the next match for Bengal vs Baroda.
Magneto Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 :winky: :cantstop: I understand your feelings. You want Irfan to be selected and Dinda to play the next match for Bengal vs Baroda. Sounds perfect! Baroda will get weaker and Bengal will take full advantage. If it happens the other way round, then Even Ganguly will not play this match, so how much more can poor Manoj Tiwary do?

Vijay.Sharma Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Thats just daft.We won most of our away wins with crucial and big contributions from no.6.Dude, I am not referring to a batting number position. I am referring to the notion of having 6 batsmen instead of 7 (including wikky).
Pagalpanti Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Irfan should've got the first preference, but Dinda isn't a bad choice either. I'd like to see him get picked ahead of Mithun/Vinay. He is not an AR in the mold of Kapil Dev but the main point being' date='[b'] if 6 batsmen cannot get you enough runs then there is high probability that the seventh also wont. 8ankitj Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I put the blame squarely on IPL. The focus on being fit for national duty is totally missing.
