Elegant stroke players

I've noticed since the early 00's that there seems to be a geuine lack of stroke players in world cricket today. The best batsman in the world right now are the likes of Trott, Tendulkar, Sangakarra, none of which are real elegant players, though Sachin may have a slight claim to that. Right now, the only two in test cricket who are real stroke players who play with elegance, flair and creativity are VVS Laxman and Ian Bell. Everyone else who are top quality in test cricket are grafters or players who are sort of restrained. In the ICC top 10, only Ian Bell and Sachin (to an extent) are players who have real flair, creativity and elegance. Are we seeing a shift from freeflowing batting to grafting with the likes of Cook, Dravid, Trott, Smith, Amla, Younis Khan, Kallis, Sangakarra etc?

Sangakkara and Amla are more elegant than grafters....

Their strike rates still leave something to be desired to be honest. However, even the likes of Sehwag who can score very quickly isn't that beautiful to watch to be honest, I don't know what it is but his technique seems really unorthodox.

I would say Rohit as the most elegent playr in this generation.u can see how much time he has,even playing to 90 mph bowlers.just need to be consistent and keep his mental temperament clear & strong.

I think you're overrating Rohit a little here. He's completely untested at international level at this point and scoring buckets of runs in the Indian league doesn't really tell that much. Out of the up coming talents, Umar Akmal and Eoin Morgan seem to be both really elegant and talented.

I've not seen Darren Bravo play that much, though I've heard good things about him. Morgan is quite elegant, he's fantastic to watch in ODI cricket and has a huge range of shots. The reverse reverse sweep is the defintion of elegance :p

Because the ability to make one elegant shot out of ten and tuk tuk the way through the other 9 balls can be somewhat frustrating to watch.

Morgan can hardly be called 'elegant'. Amla and Sanga do not have that bad a strike rate either. They'll be as good as any of those pre-2000 elegant players. And if you cannot watch a bit of tuk-tuk, you do not have the temperament to watch Test cricket.

VVS an elegant player? I'd rather put him in the effective category, definitely not elegant. Different players look elegant when they play certain shots IMO. For example, On drive: Sachin Back foot cut shot: Sehwag Pull/Hook: Ponting Cover drive: Ponting/Sangakara

Trott is a rubbish player to watch. I'd rather watch paint dry. Ian Bell is bloody awesome. He has a classical technique and can dominate the bowling. That is very rare.

I still consider Sachin very elegant in his shots...there is an amazing beauty in his strokes whether it be the cute paddle sweep or the classic backfoot punch through cover or the roll of the wrists to send the ball thru midwicket or the down the wicket lofted shot. But the most elegant player currently operating I feel is Lax...effing surgeon with a bat. I also love Pawning's pull shot. I dont think too great about Ian Bell coz I havent watched him a lot. I kinda like Jesse Ryder and Michael Clarke too

Rohit and Darren Bravo certainly. Whatever little I have seen of Kane Williamson and Aaron Flinch's batting, I enjoyed their elegance..

Darren Bravo is definitely there. I like Shaun Marsh from what I have seen. Don't know if that will stack up in the numbers, but he is pleasant.
