He is not giving the easy option to the selectors. I always had the feeling that Laxman will not go on his own. In fact I think none of the present day Indian cricketers will. Too much money at stake. All of them will have to be dropped eventually.

I dunno about others but I also feel that Lax in a way will need to be shown the door. He hasn't taken the ODI rejection well and even to this day i.e. after 8 years he keeps mentioning it. So I am not sure he will leave on his own. It is good too because when the selectors make the tough call and retire him, it should sensitize Rahul, Sachin and Viru too that if they want a dignified retirement then they must call the shots in a realistic manner rather than abuse their standing in Indian cricket.

It is a perfect time for a few of the oldies to go. We are at home for 2 years now so great chance for Pujara, Rahane, Kohli and Rohit to gain experience and confidence in familiar conditions. This will stand them in good stead for the challenge of forrin wicket, but the oldies can't see this and being bit selfish.

Now they are getting selfish here. They know India is going to play most of their cricket in India after this tour and they can easily score runs on the flat wickets. They have done a great service for Indian cricket and we commend that but its time for them to go and let India rebuild.
