Needforspeed Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I have enjoyed watching Veeru bat over the years, but sad to say, his good test innings are likely to be few and far between. At least in Tests, we cannot afford to have a opener who will click only once in 10 innings or so. Maybe he can continue with ODIs, but for tests we need to try out some new opener with proper technique.
CG Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Its all good saying its a struggle form but it isnt.Sehwag never had/has the technique to survive abroad unless the pitches are flat.If we keep on hoping all is right then he will again score tons of runs at home and get his technique exposed as an opener away from sub continent. Its time we replace Sehwag with an opener who has better technique. Was the pitch at mcg flat on first day,or in his debut test in sa or in england when he got a century ,and the starts he gave us at perth in 2008 and in srilanka where others could not score a run,We played shewag as we could afford him as our middle order was so good,I do not think that is the case now though.

I had earlier made this thread about him a year back saying he has got to much freedom and playing with out responsibility ,many guys said did not agree now everybody is after him,But i saw him trying to defend in perth and adelaide first innings and he would not last then he swung in 2nd ininnings and got some runs, He simply doesnt have the technique for an opener and never had.Its time he dropped down to middle order in place of Sachin.If not then he doesnt have a place in the team Thats why dhoni is still there .

If he was that bad technically he would not have survived being an opener for so long despite not being a natural opener.

TB, 8 years and SA was 10 years back. Since the Oz series in 2007, he either has not toured abroad or has hardly done anything. His technique has been contaminated due to bullying bowlers on flat tracks here in India. And personally,I feel that even if he comes at #4, if India is in a fix when the score is 10-2, he does not possess the technique to take us out of that soup.

And the MCG wicket was one of the flattest wicket we had played overseas.His record in SA and England speaks volumes about his technique.

It was that great indian collapse that happended after Sehwag went. Sachin got otu down the leg side, Dravid was caught in short mid-on. Gangu got on a yorker. I don;t remember of Laxman but our tail came out and started slogging and we folded out on 330

So how did he score 8000+ runs at that strike rate and average, I am sure if he was that bad, he wouldn't have played this long.

It was just a hard and bouncy track where batsmen could trust the bounce and hit through the line. No lateral movement. In 2nd innings, we were facing a huge deficit but we had good batting displays from Dravid, Ganguly and even a struggling Sachin had scored 38 something I think. We wilted because of the huge deficit on an otherwise flat track.

Yes but the opening hour had soemthing and shewag and chopra hang on,Its with most pitche sin australia perth and sydney became flat but we could not hang on.
