SRT is the best Indian batsman of all time........ SRT is one of the greatest batsmen of all time..... Difference between SRT and other ATGs (minus Bradman) is not much and argument could be made one way or the other. Simply based on record Bradman >>> SRT, regardless of different eras, etc etc. Same as SMG is the greatest opener for Indian and the best opener of all time considering the attacks he has faced. End of story!

Please add in the fact that Kohli will have to contend with a lot more sledging than Tendulkar did. I am not kidding - this was given as a reason to show Tendulkar is greater than Bradman - Bradman did not have to contend with concentration breaking sledging like Tendulkar.
Very true. Bradman might have been able to handle WW 2, but sledging? He would have wilted under the pressure. Also, think of the coordination it takes to flip the birdie, while at the same time focusing on a ball coming in at the speed of light. Kohli is streets ahead.. So, yes you are correct. SRT is way ahead of Bradman (low standard). But Kohli's standard is already unattainable. Maybe Arjun Tendulkar....

And the generation after Kohli will be required to avg 12.5 only to be considered as greater than Kohli, Sachin and Bradman :P /thread
That goes without saying. By then we will have standaridized astro turf wickets and the bowlers will be chucking (using a 60 degrees variance rule inserted by BCCI) at 300 kph. Of course, the batsmen will be wearing pillows in addition to helmets. They will be watching these ancient videos of these slow helmetless people playing on unpredictable wickets. The tailenders like say Munaf Patel's son- would be saying that he would have averaged 125 instead of 12.5 if he played back then. We cannot stop progress..

On the other hand RD didnt get to be in the same bracket as SRT because former was not as good in LOI. I say it cuts both ways' date=' LOI success made SRT seem a much better batsman than he was.[/quote'] The difference Dravid (or Ponting) and Tendulkar is the same difference between an ordinary genius and a magician. The curious thing is that normal fans seem to understand it while the hard-core stats-worshipping Tendulkar-bhakts don't.

Thanks. Do learn to use google when you don't understand a reference' date=' or it will become like that Mark Twain quotation about opening the mouth.[/quote'] You do realize that everything found on google or written by folks is not the be all and end all.

What I meant to say that an abstract component of batting greatness is how they "look". For eg, many people wouldn't have put Hayden in the same class even if he averaged 65, whereas if Mark Waugh averaged 55, they probably would have. The quote seemed to be a nice way to express that difference. Anyway, leaving it there. It is more fun to poke BossBhai with a one-liner once in a while and watch him go crazy.

Guys do not take it the other way. Folks who are talking trash about SRT need to get their heads checked and figure where this vitriol is coming from. He is a ATG, the greatest Indian batsman, no doubt about it (and I have followed the Indian stars of the 70s and 80s). His longevity and consistency is phenomenal also the fact that he has achieved equally in test cricket and ODI. Reading some of the posts here gives one the impression that he is average or shyt. The only thing that is uncertain is his status as the greatest of his generation. I think case can be made against it. I am not a SRT fanatic, but this line of argument is a bit hard to digest.

I suppose everyone understands that but most of the arguments that try to pull him down are in reaction to the pro-group that goes to the other extreme. It has become impossible here to be secular about Tendulkar. I thought my original post was somewhere in the middle but got attacked by both groups who thought that I belonged to the other camp !

Well I have been very critical of SRT and think he lost the opportunity to bow out on top after WC 11. Also think this will taint his legacy to a some extent. But to discount him as great player, a ATG, and the best Indian batsman is just utter tripe.

I think your post got attacked simply because you used a specific and a not-so-well-known phrase. I think it's advisable to mention a source along with an unusual phrase when that phrase has to be used. And Mark Kac is not exactly Albert Einstein, so ...
