I agree with the sentiment that he should rest the whole series or play all consequential games in a given series. That should be the case with players like Sehwag and Gambhir as well. Once you are in a series, play your best XI for the game, unless you've already qualified for the finals and want to rest players for a game or two.

Him playing each series would not make any sense. If we have a 5 ODI homse series say against NZ, what point Sachin playing those ahead of any younster. However, I agree he should be playing all matches of any consequence, like CB series.

You see the thing is if Sachin makes way for younger players at home/SC pitches, these guys have played enough on these pitches to make their way to headlines. This in turn leads the management to invest in them as future prospects with huge potential, which is as it should be. However the problem starts when Tendulkar comes back for important away series and blocks these youngsters from getting a place in the XI. Let us be frank, irrespective of a young guy's performance he is never going "EARN" a place in the side ahead of Tendulkar (to illustrate, imagine what would have happened had there been no rotation and UV was fully fit - Raina and Rohit could wipe their asses with their performances). This could easily lead to a scenario where the selectors continue to harbour delusions about the young guy's potential which they have invested in, while having no idea if the guy can actually play on such surfaces (it would require fair number of chances to determine this). Our weird scheduling of away tours (18 months of key away tours followed by 2-3 years of playing at home) would mean that we would be losing significant amount of time (appx 4 years) before we get an opportunity to establish if a player can play in these conditions. For example, if Rohit and Raina were to be dropped now, on the next tour to Australia they would be respectively 28 and 29! Already Ajinkya Rahane will already be 27 yrs before he could have even faced a delivery on Australian soil, courtesy Sachin's decision to play the CB series. These are points worth considering before blindly insisting upon Sachin's inclusion. Its one of the reasons why I said in one of the other threads that Kohli-Rohit-Raina at 3 - 4- 5 positions must be preserved at ANY cost in this series.

Yep, the Aussies showed the same culture when they persisted with Ponting and Hussey, both in a far worse slump than our seniors, yet didnt hear a peep put of Chappel. And it payed rich dividends. If you really want to learn something from aussies, learn how they respect their legends. Try saying a word about Bradman or even Steve Waugh in front of an Aussie Since when is age a criteria for selection? there are players as old as Sachin in other teams. If someone is still performing, they should get a chance ahead of people who are not performing whatever both players age.

Did you read my post above the one you replied to? In case you didn't, Sachin's tendency to selectively appear in ODIs is the problem. It would be fine if he played each and every game, without exception. Aussie veterans don't take vacations during 'unimportant' series. Sachin has been doing it from sometime now.

So you would llike to experiment new guys in important matches so that they can gain experience of playing in important matches..!! Going by that logic we should have tried all U-19 guys in WC final, so that next time when Indian reaches WC final, we have players with experience of playing in such conditions. No 'experiment' isn't the right word. I'm talking of guys who have performed reasonably in conditions they are comfortable with. Also I clearly mentioned how this logic of "doing enough" is flawed. People are never going to do enough to "earn" their place when they are up against Sachin. Its the reason why you think Raina(130+ odis) and Rohit (70+ odis) haven't done ENOUGH. Thier averages are already better than some of greats from other teams.
