Brought the spotlight on Muay Thai - and then I saw more of it in the MMA tournaments..I am a fan now ! His skills are outstanding, but honestly, most of his moves look more like gymnastics than like kung-fu fighting.

But the acting is awful, and occasionally the voice over dubbing is horrible. Try watching a few ong bak series and you'd get what I'm talking about. You can't relate the voices to the characters at all.

While I agree they might not be as muscular as Yuri Boyka or The Great Khali, I am sure they have technique on their side. These fellows have learned kung fu from the age of 3 or 4. If you see some of their old, kid-practise videos from the temples you will know they can bend spears with their throats. Muscle and size is not the only requirement for being good on the street. Agility, technique, and speed are possibly even more important. Its like Kieron Pollard and Sachin Tendulkar. While one can biff a few sixers when the ball is in the slot (and is practically useless when the ball is not in the slot) the other can send balls faster off the bat even when they are not pitched on the slots and in the process do ten times more damage than the former.

Yup..I agree with what you are saying completely !.. (But bear in mind Scott Adkins had begun training in Martial Arts from the age of 3 . Tony Jaa must have had a similar training history as well I wouldn't count Khali as a 'martial artist' since WWE is ..well...WWE..) I am harsh on Lee,Chan and Li... and no doubt that these guys can kick some ass. Maybe its the effect of watching too many Indian movies when I was young...watching some short/fat/skinny guy beat up 200 ppl on the screen without breaking a sweat..

Jackie did stunts all by himself - he still does at the age of 50+ :hatsoff:

This fight was a real fight. The story goes that Bruce Lee had killed the challenger's brother. The Challenger showed up at the shooting of the movie to take revenge. Initially everybody thought it was te shooting going on then they realized the guy was actually attacking Bruce Lee. The fight, people swear, was the deadliest fight ever. The cameras kept rolling but in the end Bruce Lee managed to kill the challenger and then tore away the film reels and destroyed them. Obviously we do not have the original but here is a dramatization from the movie on Lee by his son. His fighting style resembles whats best suited for a mob brawl or an alley fight. Bruce versus Tony in a street fight will be interesting, since Tony is a serious contender in his own rights. This man can take some punishment and seems lethal with sticks and other props.

Comparing 2 completely different martial art forms.. Lee is a Kung fu exponent while Tony Jaa is a Muay Thai person. There is nothing 'unnecessary' about Muay Thai I think... all the MMA fighers would probably attest to it, there is a reason why every MMA school adopts a significant amount of Muay Thai into their teaching style.

His moves seem to have a lot more gymnastics than needed.

Muay Thai's emphasis on elbow and knee strikes immensely helps in close quarter combat situations and jiu-jitsu is the ultimate winner in any fight that has parties grappling on the ground as it deals with mechanical leverage and positioning, apparently a reasonably trained jiu-jitsu man cannot be beaten by any other martial art student if the fight reaches the floor.

Makes sense. It happens especially if the people involved are not well trained. I remember watching an Akshay Kumar interview when he was very young and he was saying the same exact thing that though he did not mention Ju-Jitsu. He even demonstrated a few moves that can be useful in a street fight. He totally ruled out flying kicks, round kicks etc. He said you try one of those and you will be down even before you know it.
