Ultimate_Game Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Home Truths for Indian selectors... Here are some home-truths for Indian selectors & team management which one would have imagined they would do by now.. 1. Jaddu can't bat sala - He's a cr@p batsman good only against low quality bowlers on patta pitches in IPL on small grounds. At 7 he's a joke for the opposing team. I can't possibly imagine what the opposing team must be thinking when Jaddu comes in at 7, maybe they are all laughing in the huddle. At least Uthappa or Yusuf Pathan had the ability to score quick or hit the boundaries and play few ame changing knocks. 2. Ditto Pappu Patel - Find it amazing to see him in the team time and again despite so many failures. On his good days he manages a 30 and on his best day (2-3 times every year) he may actually reach 50 but that's about it. More often than not he's a batsman who won't get past 20. Also, it's not as if his wkt keeping is all that flash either. 3. Sehwag is as useless in a chase as a wet firecracker - Bet it 2nd innings in Tests or chasing in odis, Viru simply doesn't show up in chases. He may have once in a blue moon knock while chasing but more often than not we will be a wkt down for nothing much on the board. 4. Irfan Pathan - No matter what you say about the guy, at least he has some talent. He has the ability to score against good bowling and is not that bad as an all-rounder in Aus. Hope selectors persist with him as the next WC is in Aus and we all know what other options like Jaddu can do in Aus. 5. Dhoni & Gambhir - No matter how you slice and dice it, while chasing if Gambhir or Dhoni fail, chances are India's going to fail. Maybe Kohli can also be added to the list but it's clear Gambhir and Dhoni will have to carry the batting in odis as without Yuvi we somehow have to make up for the deadwoods like Jaddu, Pappu and Sehwag (while chaing). 6. Pace bowling sucks - Can't believe we have such a cr@ppy pace attack. Vinay has been trying his best but he's a very limited bowler and wouldn't be bowling at intl level for any team other than India. Umesh is all about the speed gun and continues to bowl short, wide, down the leg etc. When the team's 49th and 50th overs have to be bowled by the likes of Raina and Kohli, it says it all about the new pace sensation and our pacers in general. Zak is too unfit to play for long and maybe Ishant can be brought back in odis as he can't be any worse than the current lot. Our fast men can't take early wkts and we are down 3 wkts in the first 10 more often than not. You can't really win games with such a disadvantage.
Yoda-esque Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Our batting bowling and fielding is in a shambles. No way we can qualify for the finals.
Ultimate_Game Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Our batting bowling and fielding is in a shambles. No way we can qualify for the finals. We have bigger problem, i.e. fans actually have a better idea regarding the players than the selectors. Case in point Jaddu and Pappu :nervous:

Worrying is the form of Sehwag and SRT...They are both game changers and both are hopelessly out of form.
ganeshran Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Both juniors and seniors are failing. Time to accept that its not the selectors fault and our players are playing rubbish. Everyone has been given chances except Manoj Tiwary who is apparently ill

Worrying is the form of Sehwag and SRT...They are both game changers and both are hopelessly out of form. Sehwag in chases has seldom done much and unfortunately we have chased all 6 games so far. As for SRT his days are over. He may hit an occasional knock but he won't be a consistent run scorer, especially outside of the sub-continent.

Everyone has been given chances except Manoj Tiwary who is apparently ill Yup everyone is failing but at least our selectors and team management have to give us the best possible chance to win. What exactly have selectors seen in Jaddu and Pappu for them to be persisted for so long? Are you really surprised they are not doing much in Aus? Plus if Pappu had to be played, play him as an opener as that's the only place he can maybe score a quick 30, but batting him down the order meant our tail started with 4 wkts down!!! Neither Jaddu or Pappu can do much lower down the order.

Ideally he wouldnt have got even a single match
Ultimate_Game Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Who would you have played in place of Jadeja? Pappu is there only because Dhoni is banned. Ideally he wouldnt have got even a single match I would have played Tiwary, or if Tiwary was unfit, Rohit in place of Jaddu. And my top order would have been... Sehwag Pappu Tendulkar Gambhir The reason for doing so - 1. Pappu can only score at the top (whatever he can actually), 2. It would have added depth to the batting, 3. Hopefully we would have decent batsmen left after the new ball was negotiated.
