Sehwag1830 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 We have a puppet PM who can't do anything . Powerless Election commission, powerless judiciary , corrupt president, paid media. I mean is India really a democracy ?
Stuge Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 my friend name of the fruit is known as :Indian Democracy" Plus that puppet Pm was never elected by the people .
f.b.m Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 The government happens to represents its citizens quite well.. Which is the point of a democracy.
Lurker Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 :hysterical::hysterical: full marks for understanding meaning of banana republic.
Stuge Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 :hysterical::hysterical: full marks for understanding meaning of banana republic. quite true "Banana republic is a term that refers to a politically unstable country dependent upon limited agriculture (e.g. bananas), and ruled by a small, self-elected, wealthy, and corrupt politico-economic clique" :haha::haha::cantstop::cantstop:
achilles Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Leave the country and go. Make your life outside it, come back and then take on the politicians.
gs Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Turning India into a banana republic (or a close replica) has been a long term project of the Gandhi Inc. About the time British wrapped up their operations in India' date=' we had a literacy rate of 19 percent. China wasn't far off at 20% and the present South Korea too had a dismal 22%. Back to present and the stats are nothing if not a tale of deliberate and criminal abdication of [i']rajdharm. Look at the GDP. Once again, comparable numbers in 1950s with both Korea and China struggling in the aftermath of war and cultural revolution. Infact, our per capita GDP was equal to China till late 70s. Once again, we're the only beggar nation left of the three. The only beneficiaries of this criminal enterprise have been the Gandhi clan with their hereditary politics and demagoguery. But we vote for the Gandhi clan (or show apathy towards voting/elections in general) to rape us and the country and fully deserve what we got.

You comparing India to S Korea and China is apples to oranges. Korea got massive US aid to counter the threat of N Korea (communism), also smaller population etc. China is also different, no democracy, several campaigns by the junta which would not have worked in India etc (one child policy etc). Also there are several nations India has outperformed. Infact, if you look at all the countries who got their independence around 1947 India has done quite well overall compared to others.
KhanSaab Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 If economic aid were the answer to poverty and social development then Pakistan and sub-Saharan Africa would be leading the HDI charts. In the marketplace of excuses, countries like Japan and South Korea could always point to the abnormal imbalance in natural resources. India's been endowed with plenty and the east Asian economic giants literally had nothing. Economic and social development of the scale of Korea doesn't ever happen on the back of aid, it needs political will and structural changes. The latter is something we've only half-heartedly embraced now. Communism in China another deceitful bunk furnished by the Congress apologist. People don't need authoritarian regime to get educated. They need facilities. Within India, Kerala is a clear proof that you don't need communism (though it was governed largely by communists) in its ugliest incarnation to achieve social development. I am even willing to concede that the Gandhi clan genuinely believed a socialist model would be best for India. Even then, 20 years should have been enough to conclude that it was an unmitigated disaster and a total overhaul of the "commanding heights" economy was needed. Even the Chinese CPC could see the obvious. But not our Gandhi Inc. Which is why every country is unique. You cant just point to some nation and expect your own to mimic its growth or downfall just because they happen to have the same literacy level etc. We're all dumber after having read this quoted bit. Assuming that is actually possible in your case, I suggest you look it up.

KhanSaab Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 How's the non-implementation of X child policy worked out ? We will never know how it would have worked out in India. However, I would be against it. There were several other chinese gov policies which I would be against. The Great Leap Forward, Cultural Revolution etc. Sometimes I wonder if people pining for Chinese economic growth are even aware of all this.

I can play that game too. BTW these things aren't a result of India choosing socialism, rather Congress' neglect over the years.
yoda Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 How's the non-implementation of X child policy worked out ? We're a democracy, so can't have such govt control over private lives. All we can do is educate.

I was not arguing that India's record is somehow superior to China's. Just that both countries are different and there is no telling how Indians would respond to some of the policies that China implemented. I know people who are still upset with Indira over the emergency and I cant imagine them going through with something like the cultural revolution.

Whatever we have implemented on overpopulation hasn't worked well enough and far too many minors suffered because their parents didn't know better and the same goes for our governments. We're a democracy' date=' so can't have such govt control over private lives. Why is a parent injuring a kid a criminal case but giving birth to multiple kids a democratic right even if one cannot afford to feed any one of them ?

What will you do to a husband who can't feed his wife? Put a minimum salary on a guy before he can get married? What happens once his salary level drops? Make them separate? These social issues don't have governmental solution. There is no one size fits all here. You can only have broad laws which don't infringe upon a person's life, and these laws cannot be based on a person's gender, age, race, caste or financial background.

When either circumstance becomes a national epidemic which leads to millions dying every yr and tens of millions affected in terms of stunted growth, it requires serious intervention. Of course, if these facts are accepted to be business as usual over a period of decades, we can fall back on the excuses of democracy & human liberties.
