Seniors forced out of 20-20?

Recommended Posts

When India's probables for the Tweny20 World Cup were announced earlier this month, three names were conspicuous by their absence from the 30-man list released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. They were Rahul Dravid [Images], Sachin Tendulkar [Images] and Sourav Ganguly [Images]. The trio were said to have opted out of the tournament 'to give a chance to youngsters'. National selection committee chief Dilip Vengsarkar said Dravid called him from Hove, where the touring Indian team was playing Sussex a tour match, to say that the three senior players were opting out of the tournament, to be held in South Africa from September 11 to 24. 'I got a call from Rahul today morning who said on behalf of all the three players that they were opting out of the Twenty20 World Cup,' Vengsarkar had said. But, according to Times Now on Tuesday, it was the BCCI that told the India captain to opt out and also convey the message to Ganguly and Tendulkar. Ganguly it seems was keen on playing in the tournament. 'Obviously, it was tempting to participate and I was eager for the inaugural Twenty20 championship. It is sad to opt out of any form of cricket,' Times Now quoted him as saying. 'It was a difficult decision but Rahul and Sachin had already said 'no'. I had a word with Rahul and he said it will be right to sit out,' he added. The television channel went on to say that Tendulkar too was eager participate in the tournament 'but when the decision was made, he expressed his disapproval by not talking to Dravid at the net session at Sussex'. Dravid too, it seems, wanted to play in the tournament but did not want to take up the issue with the BCCI. The final squad for the championship will be named on August 6 or 7.

God, i am PRAYING that India does well at the Twenty20 World Cup. It's the perfect stage for young Indian cricketers to lure the attention of the selectors and make them think beyond the current group of players India has. If some of the hopefuls in the Twenty20 squad deliver, the ch*thiya seniors won't be around for long and that can only be a good thing for Indian cricket.

I am glad Dravid took the respectable option which was also in team interest. Tendulkar as usual chose to do the immature thing. Not talking to your team mate ......Imagine that ! He should be grateful to Dravid for making it easier and look respectful. But I guess he wanted the Drama of being rested once again .

I was wondering when the Tendulkar bashers would enter and start bashing him on the basis of an unsubstantiated report.
don't tell me that we now need to wait for confirmation from various sources before talking about the great one!

actually a lot of these "juicy" rumours turn out to be true. remember that 90% of the things we discussed during the chappell/ganguly fiasco were rumours from random sources. and it is absolutely believable that tendulkar would have wanted to play.

Apparently Dravid was given the job of telling the other two (probably not wanting another resting drama like in bangladesh). And dravid talked to them. Why didn't Tendulkar speak out when the news first hit stand? It was mentioned that Dravid discussed with the other two and the three decided to opt out.Why didn't he speakout then ?He has given some well publicised interviews in the recent past.Any problems should have been sorted out before the tour started. Why sulk in the middle of an important tour?

Why? Why would Dravid do the BCCI's work for them. He is captain of the team, not a stupid naukar. Why would he do the BCCI's dirty work? Why lick their asses? If the BCCI doesnt want another resting drama, why dont they talk to the players directly?

What crap are you on about. SRT didnt speak out at all. If you believe this news, then atleast read it properly. SRT hasnt spoken out at all about this. He has never said he wanted to play. This is a third party source. Also, he did not sulk in the middle of the tour. He did that as soon as it happened. Please read the article, and dont twist facts just because your darling crush is an idiot. SRT has done the wise thing by not speaking out at all. If he did, there wouldve been a huge huge drama. Dravid has no right to decide for SRT and SCG, and If the BCCI decide it, then Dravid should not get involved.Seems like he is BCCI's bunny

Holysmoke ...I am writing what the television is reporting in India.....Not just based on the few lines written here .Not reliable source....but most times it has been proven that there is no smoke without firespecially when the big nes in cricket are involved.

Ok..when it is tendulkar...this news is unreliable ...but you have no problem believing that Dravid took the the decision on their behalf based on the same report. Since you are willing to give the benefit of doubt to "the love of your life"you should extend the same to Dravid. Since you don't believe these reports.....How do you know what Dravid was told to do and what he discussed with them and what the Bcci asked him to do...?

OK.. fair enough. But explain this.

That was the official story. This is the latest "breaking" news. Big difference.

Tendulkar hasnt spoken out at all. This is news from a third party.(unless you can prove to me that it is tendulkar)What are you implying by saying "why didnt he speak out then." He hasnt spoken about it "then" or "now" Please explain.
Any problems should have been sorted out before the tour started. Why sulk in the middle of an important tour?
The problem occurred after the tour started. The BCCI (Smartly, I may add), did their dirty work in the middle of the tour.. knowing tendulkars nature.. and left him with two choices. Either complain and create a media circus and hungama.. and tarnish his image.. or keep quiet and take it. We all know what he would have done and what he did. And he did not suddenly sulk in the middle of the tour. He did it as soon as it happenned. And its justified .Dravid was stupid to get involved.

When that version came out, I believed it. This is the latest news.. dont u get the difference..:confused_smile:I gave Dravid the benefit of doubt earlier, now I am giving it to tendulkar.

I dont. Its all hypothetical, If these reports are true.

The sulking bit is from the OP you have posted....which you asked me to read properly before posting. Why sulk?Is he a kid? Why can't he let the BCCI know that he doesn't agree with Dravid and that he would like to play. What is stopping him from doing that instead of "not talking"?Is he scared that the BCCI will tell him the same . You are right ...poor dravid shouldn't have got involved. He should have let the BCCI tell the world that Tendulkar wasn't required.I guess he is a much easier punching bag than the BCCI. Some people just don't deserve decent men as captains....

Exactly. Poor (and stupid) Dravid should not have got involved. He shouldve let the BCCI tell the world that Tendulkar wasnt involved, and refused to do the dirty work for them.It was stupid of him to get involved, or...... maybe he had to do it.. maybe that is the reason he is still captain.. because he's agreed to do this... I admit that I do not know. I am just thinking aloud.
