I don't see any other National level party giving much opposition to Congress Party.. Thinking of Congress, what's it's future if there's no one from the Gandhi clan to keep hold on the party? Narasimha Rao did a good job. But I'm not too sure of the party holding together once the Gandhi clan moves out of the scene..

People here seem to be too pessimistic with regards to the future of BJP as a national party. I for one think that it is only the BJP which can challenge the Congress at the National level. Even now (when many people here seem to suggest that the BJP is in decline and the future is bleak for BJP) it still has around 900 MLAs in the country as against around 1150 for the Congress. Its only a matter of making a few right decisions and then the party will be back on track in key states like UP, Maharashtra, Karnataka etc. Also, if the UPA continues in its corrupt ways then BJP/NDA will automatically gain advantage without doing anything - an example of this is the recent Punjab elections where the SAD-BJP Govt should have lost but turns out that the anti incumbency against UPA was greater than anti incumbency against SAD-BJP and therefore Congress lost a state it should've won easily. In Uttrakhand also the effects of the Central Govt's corruption were felt when Congress got nearly as many seats as BJP even though it was expected to win the state easily. I don't think the Gandhis will ever let go of their private political party. But if for some reasons nobody from the party is around then I see HUGE difficulty for the part because the Gandhis have made sure not to let anyone other than family members to become a leader of national stature so they will have difficulty in finding anyone to hold the part together. If the Gandhis are not around I see a big power struggle between many leaders for control of the party and this will weaken the party.

And why will Gandhi clan move out of scene when every member born in it is almost certain to rule the country irrespective of merits ?

Raul Vinci is unmarried so far.. I have doubts about him starting a family in near future as he's 40+ now. I don't see him being able to hold the party together if Maino decides to 'kick the bucket'.. I think Priyanka will 'displace' Raul in the near future. The guy has screwed up in too many important elections.. Only hope is the Vadra family and it's offsprings..

Well she's still called as Priyanka 'gandhi' Vadra.. So they've kept that option open.. The problem is with Raaabert Vadra..He could spoil the party due to his stupidity.. Till now he's not screwed up publicly, could be due to the possiblity that he's been thoroughly warned by the Godmother Maino to not do anything stupid else he too could be eliminated like others in his family..

does he need to ??? he is already treated as VVIP at the airports and other Govt. places.
Yes.. Till the Gandhi clan is there together, safety is everywhere..If, for some reasons they are gone, he needs something to cover himself..

Till now Sonia Gandhi has made sure that Robert stays away from politics and concentrates only on looting public money but now it seems he also would like to join "Gandhi & Gandhi Pvt. Ltd." so I think he would be joining politics soon.

Another Chandrasekhar, Devegowda or IK Gujral must be smiling somewhere and counting on his fortunes for 2014 or whenever the next elections are held. All these regional satraps Nitish, Mulayam/Maya, Mamta, Jaya, Naveen Patnaik, CBN are likely to win bulk of LS seats in their states, but will never let the other one get to the PM gaddi and ultimately the 3rd front will have to go for a consensus candidate. That is looking like a more realistic scenario especially with BJP looking comatose and struggling with some massive ego clashes at the top.

I really don't think that something like a 3rd front will ever work for a long time because of the huge egos of these small regional leaders who all seem to think they good enough to be the PM. We're seeing a trend in many states nowadays where power alternates between 2 parties and I see the same trend in the Center as well - voters will choose coalitions led by either BJP or Congress because they know that these so called "3rd/4th fronts" cannot provide a stable Govt. As for BJP being comatose, again I disagree - even in the recent elections it performed very well in all states except UP and I'd rather have some clashes at the top than a "leader" like Rahul Gandhi (who IMO will be the UPA's biggest liability in 2014).
