Pravinkataria you have a good point but wouldn't it be better if there was this committee rather than none at all (one which can investigate without needing permission)
I'm willing to give anything a fair try on the off chance that it may actually do what it was intended to do. And on paper, an executive authority whose remit it is to discover evidence of corruption in government, that does not require permission from another governmental authority seems interesting. Autonomy is a key aspect. But I find it hard to believe that this will in fact change anything. There is just too much at stake for everyone involved to allow this authority to function the way it is meant to. And there is enough money to go around to fill everyone's pockets. And those who can't be bought will be threatened with lose of life of their own and their families. In other words, every authority that exists now and is either corrupt or in the control of the corrupt, once started out with the best of intentions. What is going to prevent this new office from going the same way? The odds are stacked against it.

Another important point is that we already have many different authorities like CBI, CAG, CVCCIC etc but almost all of them have many corrupt officials who can be easily influenced by Politicians, Big Businessmen, Civil Servants etc so who's to say that Lokpal will be any different? IMO it will end up as yet another layer of our massive bureaucratic structure and because of the extremely wide range of its powers it will have huge scope for abuse of power.
