A soft drinks company printed her cellphone number "erroneously" in one of their advertisement campaigns featuring actress Katrina Kaif. For the past four weeks, Shipra, 33, has been receiving thousands of phone calls and obscene text messages addressing her as Katrina. The company's TV commercial being telecast since February says, "Katrina ka number label ke andar." "I have been receiving more than 1,000 phone calls and large number of SMSs daily. I am tired of telling people I am not Katrina," said Shipra. When she asked the firm to remove her number from the labels of their product, the company responded that they did not provide the number and so cannot be held responsible if consumers dialed a wrong number. Shipra then collected labels sent to her by callers from different parts of the country in which her number was printed and slapped a legal notice on the company. TOI is in possession of the bill of Shipra's cellphone number and one of the labels of the soft drink company sent by a caller from Chennai in which the same number has been printed. The software professional said she was on medical leave since January 4 due to a chronic back pain and was advised bed rest. But the calls aggravated her health problem. In most such cases, companies like to get it over with as fast as they can. The company here would not be as scared of the compensation amount as of media ridicule. A good lawyer worth his salt would tell the company to either apologize and settle fast or to make the whole case a media farce. Indian media is always hungry for masala news and this makes a perfect one. I guess there will be an out of court settlement with a handsome amount and with a written assurance from the woman that she is fully compensated to her complete satisfaction and that she would never talk about the incident on any public forum.
