It is owned by MCA but made on Sahara's money. They wanted to name it as Sahara stadium but as per rules stadiums can't be named after organisations. So they settled for Sahara chief's name

We have a Rajapaksa Stadium at Hambantota in Sri Lanka, a Vivian Richards Stadium at Antigua in WI, a Muttiah Muralidaran Stadium at Pallekelle in SL, DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai..the list could be longer.

I missed out on D.Y Patil stadium. He's still around. Governor of one of the NE states.

i think wankhede stadium too named after him while he was still alive
