'We can be one of the greatest England teams ever' - Anderson

Recommended Posts

Though I think England are playing good cricket at the moment and deserve to beat India and win the series, they were hardly stretched at any point in the 3 tests other than the 1st innings at Trent Bridge. I thought India played very poor cricket and they had themselves to blame more than brilliant cricket from England. I wish India had played more competitively and we could have seen a more tight contest but its hard to tell if a team is really good when they are not even pushed. On other hand hand, I could definitely say Australia was a great side simply because they looked almost invincible when they almost won a series in 2001 and subsequently when they dominated world cricket. Though the present English side is good, they dont look anything outstanding. They have Pietersen and Bell who are good batsmen and the bowling unit looks good in their conditions. But I dont think they will do that great overseas and as a result, not going to last as No.1 very long.
That is the crux isn't it, what will they do when challenged. They were in the first two tests, but dug deep and turned the game around. I see this as very positive. As for abroad, we shall see, but what I like is that a lot of the youngsters have already played abroad and so are not total green horns

We will keep the no.1 for the next 5 years at least, even if we were to lose this series. The only threat is South Africa, and they can't consistently win at home. Aussies aren't good enough and India will be competing with Bangladesh for 10th place.
Right! By dominate I mean in general win most of their series and beat most sides and draw with others in their home countries. Why do I think 10 years, well because A/ We have a relatively young team, B/ Our Lions Team is also doing well and has rising stars and C/ WI,Aus and India are all in decline and will take at least five years to turn that around IMHO Aus have very little coming through and India will be devastated to lose three quarters of their team in the coming years. England also possess strength in depth at the moment, which I see as a very important part of remaining dominant. Both in Bowling and Batting we have easily fitted in replacements and back ups upon backups. I think we are pretty much in the best position in relation to that world wide at the moment. On top of this we are focussed on Test cricket and not overly distracted by the IPL, yet

They have a habit of hyping themselves up. Fifa 2010 world cup is a good example. Bell being the best player of spin is another, how clueless was he.

They can't play spin either. :cantstop:

Maybe you are counting your chickens before they will be hatched? In order to "dominate" England would need to learn to play spin and have decent spinners. Given you are talking about 10 years I am sure you haven't factored in Swann being there for all those 10 years. So you probably believe that you will have some world class spinners coming up thru the domestic circuit. Any fellas who seem hopeful in the first class scene right now? As for playing spin, that can be learned. If not mastering it you can at least be as good as the Aussies collectively were. That shouldn't be a problem though. In ODIs it can be done but if the question is will England start dominating from now on for the next 10 years, I am afraid the answer is no. It might take you at least till the next WC to learn to take ODIs seriously and be good at them. If you do win the WC then who knows you might dominate. T20 is a lottery so really there is no domination in it as of now. I am not sure even if the staunchest and most biased/delusional English supporters a la Vaughan and Beefy would actually claim that England will dominate cricket for the next 10 years. I am also not sure if this thread was in anyway meant to be serious (or if maybe you were just trolling). I'd suggest you wait till you win a couple of series in the subcontinent, then beat Aussies in the next Ashes before thinking about world domination

Age of current players after 5 years Strauss : 39 Cook : 31 KP : 36 Bell : 34 Prior : 34 Bresnan : 31 Trott : 35 Swann : 40 Anderson : 34 Broad : 30 How can ICFers discuss 10 year domination? What would be basis of such discussion?
Great post.... From this half this side will be gone in the next 2 years... They have been shown up (as over-rated) in UAE will get smacked in India, Aust will beat them and they will be pushed or lose to SA (kallis will bend them over).... Short lived, temporary No. 1 is england
