Crookbond Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 we've got 8 icfers so far who started watching cricket this century Just like Bangladesh who started playing Test cricket this century.
riya Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Well i don't know exactly about the numbers. But one thing i remember was that how Indian team was under dirt of match fixing allegations and other controversies when Dada took over.He brought a refreshing change, r.An attitude to win. Most importantly our first series in Pak is exactly the starting point to our No 1 test rank mission.Rememeber our team was more or less the same in 2006 too,but we couldn't win in Pak. Dada is rightfully rated...
bangladeshifan Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Just like Bangladesh who started playing Test cricket this century. it has nothing to do with bangladesh dumbo
vvvslaxman Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 And Akash Chopra did well enough for himself in that series. Consumed enough balls helping the shine to wear off so that the middle order is not exposed to the new ball. Played an important role in the good opening partnerships India had' date=' thereby helping India to do well in the series.[/quote'] He didn't make any big scores there. That is not the point. I am debating why Ramesh was left out.
vamos_rafa Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Captaincy, itself is overrated. If Dhoni had quit as captain before the England and Australian tours he would have been hailed as the greatest Indian captain ever by the ignoramus. The best captain India has had have been Dravid (on field) and Pataudi (off field). Ganguly would make the top 3, but was certainly not the best Indian captain. Kapil, as an on field leader by example and playing every game to win, would also be among the top. this. and I am glad you mentioned Dravid beacuse IMO, tactically, he was India's best captain. Ganguly was not particularly good with tactics. He was more of a leader
bulbul Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Ganguly rated mainly because of Emotions... Captaincy is overrated a smany suggest...No one considers Ricky ponting has good captain but same people rates Steve waugh highly even though 2 lead similer kind of teams may be Dhoni has to swing his shirt or pant to consider greatest Indian captain ever
Magneto Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 He didn't make any big scores there. That is not the point. I am debating why Ramesh was left out. a) Because Chopra scored 2 half centuries in the last Test against NZ and played well in the NZ series in general. We rarely drop someone who's scored 2 fifties in the last game. But, more importantly: b) Ganguly thought that Chopra's defensive technique would act as a perfect foil for Sehwag's attacking batting. Though Ramesh was a better strokemaker than Chopra, his defense has always been suspect and Ganguly wanted someone who can consume as many balls as possible.

Magneto Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 7-8 months later' date=' the same Chopra was dumped by Dada and Yuvi asked to open the batting, in a series where Mcgrath, Gillespie and Kasper were on fire and made our top order bar Viru look like newbies. :(([/quote'] True. Dumping Chopra for Yuvi has been one of his worst decisions. He never supported Chopra later because possibly he started thinking that Chopra is only a 40+ player and can never score big. It shattered Chopra's confidence too, and later, he wasn't even the shadow of the player he was in the 2003-04 series.
Crookbond Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 it has nothing to do with bangladesh dumbo Just like your previous comment had nothing to do with the topic.

Dada is rightfully rated... What did Ganguly do for that first series win? Sifar. Credit where it's due girl. The best of Ganguly was against Australia 2000/01 and 2003/04. I'm not sure I would credit his captaincy for any other series, not even the fecking 2003 WC.

The obsession with Yuvraj finally got the better of Ganguly and his captaincy under Greg Chappell and rightly so.
vamos_rafa Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 No' date=' yaar, He kept Virat Kohli in the team but can he explain why he picked Vinay Kumar to play in the world's fastest Perth test pitch.? If sourav was the captain, he would have never picked Vinay Kumar to play for Indian team let alone playing in the Perth test match. We can't compare Venugopal Rao and Thiru Kumaran with Virat Kohli. Can we?[/quote'] If Kohli would not have scored in the test matches he did in, he would have been as good as Venugopal Rao in test matches. H/e could have been easily dropped mate! And that is what I am trying to say. I don't mean to say that MSD should be the only 1 who gets the credit for retaining him. And as for picking VK, you tell me a flaw in that move. That pitch was supposedly the fastest one in the world. MSD wanted to play 4 fast bowlers there. And he played the 4 that he had. Did he have any other option? No!
PaceAttack Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 ]If Kohli would not have scored in the test matches he did in, he would have been as good as Venugopal Rao in test matches. R u serious dude? And as for picking VK, you tell me a flaw in that move. That pitch was supposedly the fastest one in the world. MSD wanted to play 4 fast bowlers there. And he played the 4 that he had. Did he have any other option? No! Picking VK in 15 member squad itself was a mistake. He had better talents like shammi ahmed and abu nechim. Not only this match, Dhoni is just being an idiot giving continuous chances to players like PK and VK.
Crookbond Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 People are talking as if selectors are dummies and Dhoni scouts around India for talent and picks them. 1 or 2 players yes but this is going a bit too far stating that Dhoni picked VK in the 15. :headshake:

Not only this match, Dhoni is just being an idiot giving continuous chances to players like PK and VK. Yes I am! I don't care how much a player is talented but if he does not score or even look like scoring. I have been following cricket seriously for more than 15 years now and I am afraid Kohli, in the 1st 2 tests in O was far from comfortable. And as per picking other players, every captain has his set of players who are given an extended run. Dinesh Mongia was uselessly played for a very long time just because, theorotically he was our #7 batsman. Sanjay Bangar was as bad as any all rounder I have ever seen.
saket123 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Most Indians are over-rated (except for tendulkar) . Indians have a mentality to instantly "idolify" and getting carried away. Ganguly is actually good.. but not as good as they make it sound. The over-rated people include Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Shastri, Ashwin, Azharuddin, etc.

Gavaskar? You are a funny guy. :giggle:
