This is awesome.. ICL playing at Eden Gardens will be fantastic.. they got the prestigious stadium in India.. what more cud they have wished for... Hope ICL buys other state minsters also.. Go ICL!!:two_thumbs_up: http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/ci/content/story/308020.html?CMP=OTC-RSS State minister allows ICL use of Eden Gardens August 23, 2007 The Indian Cricket League (ICL) has received support from an unexpected quarter with West Bengal sports minister Subhash Chakraborty saying the ICL would be allowed to use the Eden Gardens and other grounds in the state. "Whatever facilities we have, we will make available to the boys who have been punished, particularly by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)," Chakraborty told NDTV, an Indian television channel. "I have no objection. All the fields will be available for them as all the fields are available for CAB. The owner of the fields is the state government not any other body. The Eden Gardens was looked after by CAB. Now the lease period is over and it is state government's property. If Kapil and others like to play in Eden Gardens, I would allow it. What is the harm in it?" The minister's public support for the Subhash Chandra-owned Essel Group's venture has come as a surprise as the current CAB president Prasun Mukherjee has the backing of the Sharad Pawar-led BCCI regime. The BCCI decided not to recognise the league and barred the defecting players from playing for India or at the domestic level, besides withdrawing all financial benefits. The ICL has managed to lure as many as 44 Indian first-class cricketers and seven overseas players, including Brian Lara and former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq, in the initial list for its proposed Twenty20 tournament expected to be held in October

The players could have done something about it by raising a stink in the media before couldn't they? If they are now coming up with issues then it only can be perceived as needless comments from disgruntled employees.
They can't do that without an alternate job opportunity. It absolutely makes sense that they are talking now. You think these guys would have been kept in the team if they decided to raise "stink"?

interesting. heres the full news.. http://cricket.indiatimes.com/BCCI_to_unveil_its_own_cricket_league/articleshow/2304935.cms News BCCI to unveil its own cricket league TNN / Sonali Krishna MUMBAI, August 23: This is one rivalry that will not die in a hurry. Kapil Dev's miscued shot in a crucial Test match against England in Delhi in the 1980s cost India the match and the series, and stoked a famous rivalry with Sunil Gavaskar. After wiping out a deficit of 111, India were comfortably placed at 128 for 2 and needed to just play out the last day for a draw. A series of rash shots (Kapil Dev included) saw them bowled out for 235, leaving England an easy target of 124. A furious Gavaskar, back as captain after a spell in the wilderness, took out his anger on his famous all-rounder, dropping him for the next match at Calcutta. Nearly 23 years later, cricket aficionados are likely to get a taste of that battle once again. This time around, it will be played out in boardrooms, backroom strategy sessions, and team bunkers. Not on the Oval Maidan. Stung by the stunning response to Subhash Chandra's Indian Cricket League (ICL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to float a rival league of its own, complete with international players, high-profile sponsorships and high-voltage excitement. And the person most likely to head it will be Sunil Gavaskar. BCCI's league is tipped to be called the Professional Cricket League (PCL), which will follow the same format as the Premier Hockey League. The teams will be a mix of members of the Indian national cricket team, upcoming Indian domestic players as well as some international cricket stars. The game format followed will be 20:20. Here's how it's going to work: Each cricket association will float a team that will be a heady mix of domestic, national and international players. Each team will have a sponsor, who will be roped in for a five-year contract, which will aid in financing the building of the league. The whole package will be offered for bidding to broadcasters, who will host the Professional Cricket League. The dramatic move only heightens the ongoing tussle between the BCCI and the Subhash Chandra-promoted Indian Cricket League (ICL). With Gavaskar backing the Board's official league, the rivalry between him and the ICL chairman Kapil Dev looks set to be renewed once again. “I cannot currently comment on the matter. Work is in progress, and when things firm up, we will make an official announcement,” Lalit Modi, vice president, BCCI, said. Sunil Gavaskar did not reply to an email seeking comment. The BCCI's logic is clear. To unlock value out of domestic cricket, which in the past it has not focused on, and at the same time, try and nip Mr Chandra's moves in the bud. “We already have the infrastructure in place, and the fact that we are BCCI will give us a much better negotiating stand with international players and boards, to sign up with us,” says a BCCI insider. The plan is expected to be ready in the next three months.

Yesterday I watched cricket controversies at NDTV, hoping that Kapil would tell us about the plans of ICL. But SIdhu completely hijacked the program and didn't even let Jadeja speak and bored us to death by his stupid stories and irritating "sidhuisms" as well as "shers". The only relevent thing Kapil said that this year they will be hiring just 30 persons more along with the 51 players already hired. They were starting with T20 but from next year, teams as well as formats will be expanded too. ICL has few original formats in its mind along with 50 over version and 3 day crickets. Kapil kept on harping that ICL will reach to the areas where BCCI has not reached but the stupid anchor won't ask him how, and that stupid Sidhu didn't let him speak further!!!
