For comparison here are the next three leading six hitters in IPL history: Raina 86 off 71 innings Gilchrist 84 off 65 innings Sehwag 77 off 60 innings Yusuf 77 off 62 innings Rohit 77 off 69 innings Chris Gayle nearly averages 3 sixes a game, no-one in IPL comes close to that average. The last time somebody massacred bowlers all over the world like this and put the fear of God in ‘em was Klusener in 99 and Jayasuriya in 96.. Even they were not that this destructive. His hitting is a very unique combination of Power AND timing.. Somebody like Dhoni or a Yusuf Pathan rely purely on muscle to deposit balls beyond the boundary line.. When Gayle hits it, especially down the ground, it does not seem like he is really giving it all.. Yet the ball travels the farthest.. I guess the closest comparison that there is out there to Gayle’s style of hitting is probably Yuvraj at his peak.. But Gayle is on an altogether different planet.
