skindia Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 T20 is based on luck of player more than his caliber....U saw murali vijay failed in many matches and got 1 lucky match yesterday coz he got balls to hit in his area...Virat kohli is good player in odi and he fails in t20...U saw Raina good player in t20 failed miserably in current IPL...so does Robin uthappa who can be good player for odi but t20 doesnt allow him to set as it has less time..Dhawan has poor domestic season but he played well in this IPL..There are many people who bashes particular player for his performance..But I think t20 is based on luck more...

MCcricket Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Provided it is one of the factors and not sole criteria for selections, as an ODI format is a 50 over game a side, hitters might not be that successful but players who can score all around and can steal singles, for a bowler , pace, rhythm, abilities can be gauged, but then stamina and endurance comes into place for test format, but certainly a players class can be judged and that is not to be equated with runs scored or wickets taken but ability to play quality opponent, temperament, technique. It is easy to recognize Awana, Aaron, Umesh, Vijay, Rahane,Dhawan, Dinda should be playing more of ODI'S and test, V Singh, R Shukla, Gony, Mandeep, Gurkeerat, have potential
JourneyMan Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 You can recognize good fielders and to a certain extent good bowlers. For batsmen on the other hand it's a little different. ODI batsmen need to be able to bat for many more overs and make regular runs without taking as many risks, especially at the higher order. T20 is good for tailenders, and might reveal a potential number 6 or 7, but the top order cannot be determined through T20 alone.
