Help me win a bet - Rob or anyone else

Got a bet going with a friend about the dismissal of Steve Waugh in Sharjah in 1998. I'm sure he was run out by a direct hit from the deep by Tendulkar and my friend says it was thrown to the keeper who took the bails off. No Cricinfo commentary back then. Rob or anyone else, do you have the video?

Yes, pretty sure it was a direct hit.

Had got this posted on one company's forum. Got three responses. Both indicate that CT has won the bet (as he should). Response 1. If you are willing to trust my memory it was a brilliant one handed pick-up & throw by Sachin and his throw broke the stumps directly, without any assistance from anyone else. Response 2 - I exactly donÃÕ remember but can assume that itÃÔ TendulkarÃÔ direct hit. Those days only keeperÃÔ name used to be recorded if it was thrown by someone else and keeper dislodged the bails. But in this case itÃÔ written Tendulkar (in score-card). It means it was a direct throw from Master. Response 3. For the proof part as he might not agree with others memory, pass him below link http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-scorecard-archives/scorecard/Australia-vs-India/6100 General norm followed by Cricbuzz and Cricinfo in case of run out is, when there is relay runout, both the players (actual thrower and one who knocks off the wicket) get mention on the score card like in final Bevan was run out on KumbleÃÔ bowling with a throw from VVS. But in case of Waugh, it was direct hit. MG Bevan run out (Laxman/Kumble) 45 87 63 2 0 71.42 DR Martyn run out (Jadeja/Prasad) 16 25 18 1 0 88.88 Hope it helps

Yes - It was indeed a direct hit into the base of the stumps. :good:

It was a one handed pick up throw and direct hit from deep midwicket. I am pretty sure Gavaskar was on air when it happened and he immediately said you should never test Sachin's arm because the young man has a very strong arm (something like that).

yeah me too found that' date=' but it doesnt say direct hit i guess[/quote'] But only Tendulkar's name is mentioned there. If it was thrown to the keeper who dislodged the bails, then both the names would have been written.
