akshayxyz Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 What is the legal/logical justification behind this? PVR has been charging Rs 20/ticket as a convenience fee for online booking. Now I noticed ClearTrip also charges Rs 100. How can they charge us for some convenience even they are getting. For every ticket booked online they save at least 5-10 minute of their employees' time.
Crookbond Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Exactly, I don't understand the #NajafgarhLogic behind this. Same at a lot of different places too. If anything - we should get charged less for booking online.
akshayxyz Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 IIRC, MeruCabs does it right. They charge you extra Rs50, if you book the cab by their phone service. Whereas there are no charges for online booking. You can always modify your booking over the phone w/o extra charges.
akshayxyz Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 Logically it is 100% 'wrong'. Can it make a valid case in consumer court?

Crookbond Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 NO. A consumer court case wouldn't fit the bill IMHO [1]. [1] http://chdfood.gov.in/Word%20Documents/18C.P.Act.pdf

But, question is - kaunse court mein case banega is ch**yape ka? aur kaise?

ganeshran Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 The convenience charge is applied since customers dont have to stand in queue to buy the tickets. Does PVR charge extra for telephone booking too?
akshayxyz Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 The convenience charge is applied since customers dont have to stand in queue to buy the tickets. Does PVR charge extra for telephone booking too? WTF! Who gave that logic? If I come by public transport, do I get discount? Or do I pay extra because I came by chauffeur driven car - which was relatively more convenient than public-transport / self-driven vehicle. I am already paying for my convenience - computer/laptop, internet bill, time spent searching/booking tickets. Taking a risk by advance booking - no cancellation policy...and so on. If anyone gets benefited, it is them - if less customers buy from the window. This saves salesman guy's manhours. Also, if more and more people buy from internet, they will get more worth of money spent in maintaining website. It is typical baniya mentality, they are simply charging us for their server/maintenance, website-development cost.
akshayxyz Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 In fact, I do not have numbers to back up - but I would guess, they get more traffic/viewers due to internet - as opposed to they would, if they did not have website. Esp young crowd would buy tickets online for any random movie - just because 'abhi movie ka mood kar raha hai', which might have changed later in the evening, but they can't because already paid for the ticket. Many of them would not have bothered to, if the only option was to visit the site. P.S. I personally ended up watching many movies at PVR, which I wouldn't have. Just because of this sudden thought - 'yaar aaj movie ka mood kar raha hai, and tickets are available right now'.
kabira Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 forget all this...indian railway charges 20Rs to 40Rs if you book online via irctc. LOL
akshayxyz Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 forget all this...indian railway charges 20Rs to 40Rs if you book online via irctc. LOL You should add - if you get lucky, esp during first 2-3 hours in the morning. Yes, even they make it to this retarded list. It makes no sense to charge for 'convenience' of customer, who is already paying for it.

akshayxyz Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 I'm not sure but is that charged by the IRCTC or the third party bank vendor. I guess the latter. irctc themselves. It gets printed on your ticket too. But I do not know, whether they keep it, or give to the bank. As, it looks like they do it to make it up for the payment-gateway fees.

It makes no sense to charge for 'convenience' of customer, who is already paying for it. At least in case of IRCTC, we don't have to go to booking counter twice, but for movies we have to go to counter again even if we have booked tickets online. You can book ticket anytime and only case in which you can get lucky is tatkal scheme. Seats under tatkal quota are filled up in half an hour.
