[/quote'] Arre badnaam kar rahe ho bhai. Waise 250K per family is not that huge a deal. I mean 100-110K salary is no huge shakes in IT (forget Investment banking like yours). Miyaan biwi dono kaam karenge to that itself make household income between 200-220K. Agar bonus mila to that would easily put them over 250 K. Pretty sure if in your line miyaan-biwi are both working, they would be landing in this high income bracket. No?
Desi Cartman Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 Kya baat karte ho :giggle: Biwi se dar gaya? Wo bhi biwi ke peeche :hmmm::hmmm::hmmm: Aur tum ghar kyun saaf karoge bhai? Tum miyaan ji, koi jamaadar thore hi :hmmm::hmmm: Miyaan = jamadaar + cook thats too on no salary :(

The Outsider Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Arre badnaam kar rahe ho bhai. Waise 250K per family is not that huge a deal. LOL! 250,000 per family is a very, very good salary in which you can afford pretty much everything life has to offer unless you want to splurge in luxury. In fact even 125,000-150,000 is good enough for that. Now, obviously there is no limit for buying a boat rather than renting one, owning a home in the mountains rather than staying in a hotel etc. etc. I mean 100-110K salary is no huge shakes in IT (forget Investment banking like yours). Miyaan biwi dono kaam karenge to that itself make household income between 200-220K. Agar bonus mila to that would easily put them over 250 K. Arre I was just kidding around, but I would never crib about paying additional taxes till around the 50% range if I am confident that they are being put to good use and being used to educate and grow the society. Apne ko kya karna hai yaar, rehne ko ghar hai, accha kha pee lete hain, chalne ke liye gaadi hai etc. etc. Pretty sure if in your line miyaan-biwi are both working, they would be landing in this high income bracket. No? My wife wouldn't know the 'D' of derivative pricing, but yeah if both of us would be working in Finance we would be over the $250,000. However, she works in a much more admirable profession than I do, by being a Nutritionist and telling old and sick people what to eat and what to avoid so that their family can see more of them. And frankly I wouldn't care if the government took off an extra 5% off our salary to educate kids and take care of the old.

Of course, but that was not my point :winky: My point is much as 250K may sound it is really not that big a deal (familywise, individual salary obviously is). Too many folks in my circle can relate to it, and yours, and I am not sure if anyone is happy. And frankly I wouldn't care if the government took off an extra 5% off our salary to educate kids and take care of the old. Me neither. However the catch is that it is not really 5%, is it? 5% to gaya hi salary se, not much can be done there. It will then boomrang in market, stocks, even daily commodity and gas prices that it becomes many time more. So much uncertainty. I have been thoroughly surprised at how Repubicans could not exploit this uncertainty. By the way, hows the mood in Wall Street??
The Outsider Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Of course, but that was not my point :winky: My point is much as 250K may sound it is really not that big a deal (familywise, individual salary obviously is). Too many folks in my circle can relate to it, and yours, and I am not sure if anyone is happy. You are right about not everyone being happy about being taxed more, but that does not change the fact that $250,000 is a very big deal. Yaar, the costs of pretty much everything in the US have skyrocketed over the past 7-8 years, I frankly have no idea how they come up with such conservative figures of the inflation in the US - my best guess is that there is too much weight on consumer electronics and the artificial housing market. Food has become more expensive, gas has become more expensive, health care has become more expensive, education has become more expensive in much greater proportions than the official inflation number. Will the 5% boomerang? A lot of more brilliant minds than me have been analyzing this issue in a lot of detail. From my personal perspective I don't think it will - why? What will you cut down in your daily life of a $250,000 family? Will you order one less turkey, will you ignore sending a gift to your niece etc. etc. MY point of view is that there will be only a marginal lifestyle cut from people earning more than $250,000. However, it does have ramifications for businesses because any business wants to be risk averse and take the safest way out. So, in an ideal world people earning more than $250,000 but self employed should be exempt from the tax increases - strictly if they are owners of a small business. By the way, hows the mood in Wall Street?? In one word - bleak. And it has been for the past 4-5 years. Woh zamaane chale gaye jab Abdul miyaan faakte udaye karte the. Wall Street always had the knowledge that Obama would become the President, that much could have been guessed from the offered odds which are made by Wall Street. What Wall Street did not consider was the fractured verdict which leaves things where they were. Now, I am not saying that the Congress would have shifted to the democrats, but if there was a trend Wall Street would have been more certain of the future. Yeah, democrats won the presidency and the Senate but hardly gained any ground in the Congress. Wall Street was betting on a decisive mandate either for or against Obama, but what it got was a fractured mandate like the one it had for the last 2 years. And frankly, I don't know for sure how companies are gearing up for the Fiscal Cliff - it might sound like a sound bite from TV channels, but the impact is going to be felt all around. What Wall Street has done is finally come to terms with the fact that Dodd Frank is going to stay, but it has screwed up employment chances even more. Not only are big banks not allowed to trade, except to hedge, but because in general they were making so much of money from the trading desks, which they can't anymore, it has led to huge cuts in personnel.
Lurker Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 You are right about not everyone being happy about being taxed more, but that does not change the fact that $250,000 is a very big deal. I agree it is a decent deal but wont call it a big deal by any means. If a couple works in LA or NYC for example, a salary of 125K per head is no great shakes. That aside, one of my bigger worries is more on the bonus side. I can still understand when a person is taxed say 25% of his income and now it becomes 30%. We all have to sacrifice. Fair enough. But I have never quite understood why I, or anyone else, should have to work hard and then also share 30% of his bonus! Why? Its not that if I do not get any bonus I get any entitlment. Let us start with share market. If I have little less money one of the first places I will cut is investing in stocks. Have you looked at the latest 401K offering my most leading companies? I am sure you have considering it is right up your alley. Most 401K companies, Fidelity for instance, have started to move away from offering funds that will allow you to keep cash. Why? Because in this bleak economy if given the choice folks like me will invest more in Bonds and keep cash, pulling money out of stocks. I personally may keep 25% or so purely in cash if I had the option. That 25% is not going to Wall Street for starters. Which is why many such companies have already removed that option. In one word - bleak. And it has been for the past 4-5 years. Woh zamaane chale gaye jab Abdul miyaan faakte udaye karte the. My company got effed recently thanks to a hedge fund Manager. Thanks for the insight. Yeah I would think Wall Street was always pro-Romney but also was ready to accept Obama if it was all in situation. Looks like hung and uncertain economy for some time.
