Besides, dont try to use fallacious logic against me- the fact that you use the cumulative batting average over the span of seasons/against oppositions/in its entirity etc. shows that you attach value to it. Remember, i did not say you assign absolute value to it - i merely said that your comment in line of 'such childishness as overall averages' is a lame and dishonest attempt at deflecting criticism of your God Sachin, since you the very same overall average factors in your discussion as well. It doesnt have to be ONLY based on that but then again, such extreme interpretations are to be expected from you, since your mind works in an 'on/off, true or false' absolute binary mode, lacking the capability of processing the indeterminate. Anyways, i know you are not up to the task of showing how many batsmen were retained in their side despite going 7 out of 8 consecutive series against non BD/ZIM opposition without averaging 40. I know this because as a statistician you are fairly inept and as a logician, you are dishonest, fundamentally geared to prove a position than establish a position (thus resort to data-mining to satisfy an already pre-concieved position and not shed any data that weakens your position) and you KNOW that Sachin is one of the few, if not only non-captaining batsmen to've gotten away for so long by having performed so little. This is why you pedantically avoided my question again, instead choosing to debate on 'abuse'. This will be my last post to you on this matter, since i have better things to do on my sundays than debate a dishonest chest-thumping nationalist with a very narrow vision. Yes, he had a poor test series in England, considering that he faced a second string english attack and still failed to average 40 against it. A below 40 average against an English lineup lacking Hoggard, Harmison & Flintoff ( i will be generous and not mention Jones) is a poor performance by any barometer. As i said before, you will struggle to find a batsman who's retained his spot in the team after going 7 out of 8 series with below 40 average against decent opposition, especially when their averages are not just above/below the 40 mark. Tendulkar is the most clear-cut example today of a batsman overstaying his time in one form of cricket ( tests). If we were as ruthless as Australia in selection of the team based on CURRENT performance, Tendulkar would've been history a while ago.

He made handy contributions, not vital ones IMO. How can YOU not recognise the fact that Tendulkar has batted like a no-name zimbabwean or Bangladeshi batsman in the last 2 yrs of tests, where he has struggled miserably to score runs consistently against anyone but the easiest of pie-throwing bowling like Bangladesh ? Sure, if you give someone a zillion chances like Tendulkar has got over the last few years, they too will score the occasional 'important knock' or decent score. Someone like Michael Holding once played a critical knock in beating England ( same match Viv scored an incredible 180+, Holding held up the other end for 100+ run partnership) but that just proves that even a gerbil will score a 50 or 60 here and there if he is given 1000+ chances. The fact that Tendulkar cannot score runs anymore in test cricket against anyone but bangladesh is painfully obvious and proof positive that he is a great who is definitely over the hill, if not in the deepest end of the valley following that hill. There is no logical justification for keeping Tendulkar in the test squad, only his reputation is keeping him in the test squad. Which is rather sad and unprofessional from BCCI IMO.
