Chidambaram and not Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi who is likely to be the party's prime ministerial candidate in the next general elections in 2014, Economist has said. The leading international weekly says since Chidambaram's fiercest rival President Pranab Mukherjee has been being elevated to the top post, Chidambaram is most suited to the prime ministerial post. The Economist says Chidambaram's growth -oriented outlook can give the nation the much-needed push. As per Economist, while Manmohan Singh will be well past 80 after 2014 polls and Rahul is still unprepared for the PM's post, Chidambaram has got the right credentials to lead the nation, having been seen as the architect of UPA's populist cash transfer scheme (CTS). Sachin=GOD Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Right now the Kanngress seems hell bent on giving more responsibility to Rahul Baba - last month he was made the head of the Congress Election Committee for Lok Sabha 2014 so he will effectively be incharge of the elections. I don't see any chance of Congress going into the elections with someone else's face as PM candidate - the workers have been made to believe that Rahul Gandhi is the heir apparant and now they have waited for too long so I don't think they will accept someone else. Also, the Gandhi surname still commands a huge following in rural India so Congress would be foolish to go with someone else's name as the party's candidate for PM. As for the suggestion of Chidambaram - anyone who has followed his career will know that that guy is extremely corrupt so it will be a big risk for Congress even to make him the PM post elections (in case they come to power). In a situation where they come to power and Rahul Baba is still not ready then I think someone like AK Antony might be a better alternative.

Congress wants to give Rahul more responsibility but Rahul is running away.We don't hear him much on important subjects.There was no good time for him than 2009 to be PM yet for some strange reasons he didn't become.Congress may not project Rahul as PM if they sense that they will not form govt comfortably.The anti incumbancy factor will be quite high in 2014
