Ultimate_Game Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I looked up their stats and both of them average 50+ in List A (domestic odis) cricket with Jaggi averaging 54 and Jadhav 52. Both of them have played decent no. of matches (35+ IIRC) and have a knack of scoring 100s once set. Anyone know why these two are not around the fringes of odi team selection. To me, both of them along with Pujara would make a solid top order for us considering Sehwag & Gambhir are not what they used to be and Rahane doesn't seem to get big scores even when he gets in.

That's fine but I'm curious how come batsmen averaging 50+ in odis are not around the team set-up. We seem to be making the same mistake of choosing wrong players for wrong formats. Rohit & Rahane are better longer format players averaging 60+ in FC but have been tried in T20s and odis. These two guys (Jaggi & Jadhav) seem to be better odi players but aren't talked about. I wanted to find out is there a particular reason why they aren't even discussed as part of team selection :dontknow:
India-KXIP fan Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Maybe they're good maybe not. But even Abhinav Mukund averages 53 with SR of 83 in domestic one day matches so it may be misleading.
saneindian Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Jadhav is an excellent lower order batsman, can hit big and plays some innovative shots, is a very good fielder as well Jaggi is more in the classical mould, doesn;t quite hit big but plays within his limiations and tries to play through the innings Out of the two, Jadhav is more promising. Along with Rayudu, perhaps the two best finishers in domestic cricket

I would rather see these youngsters who seem to be doing so well domestically than consign them to domestic cricket forever.

He shouldnt be our opener,he should be given a run in any other place.

Fair enough. In that case have one of Gambhir/Rahane play the series while giving the youngsters a go. I mentioned the team I would want to see in my previous post.

Jaggi or Jadhav need to get into A team and do well there or perform in IPL otherwise no way they will get in.

We wouldn't get too many chances to work on the team combo. Now would be the time to at least identify the core team group and see whether the youngsters are up to scratch or not. If they look way out of depth, we know the answer and if they show promise at least we have someone to fall back on in Aus. I specifically want to see how Jaggi does coz good starts would be the key in Aus and a batsman who values his wkt and gives a solid start, though not too explosive, is what we will need. Bowling is another story altogether and already had a thread post Pak series that to get better we will need to have a better bowling depth.

Fair point but Jaggi should be in the queue - I am talking about immediate options. Once Jaggi comes in the LOI setup we can of course reevaluate.
