Kochi to Baramati to Team India nets, WarrierÃÔ journey

In the last 48 hours, Kerala medium pacer S Sandeep Warrier has travelled from Kochi to Mumbai to Pune to Baramati and back to Kochi. The distance of nearly 2400 kilometres was undertaken by train, bus and and finally an airplane but he spent only half an hour at his original destination, Baramati, before being summoned back to bowl during practice to the Indian batsmen ahead of the second One-day International. The 21-year-old has taken 24 wickets in his first five Ranji Trophy matches and is one of the young pacers scheduled to be part of a fast bowlers clinic, which will include top Ranji Trophy performers. Warrier had left Kochi by train on Friday in order to represent a bank team in a T20 event being hosted in former BCCI president Sharad PawarÃÔ constituency. He reached Pune on Saturday morning and took a bus to Baramati. However, more or less as soon as he had reached Baramati, he received a call from Kerala Cricket Association secretary TC Mathew informing him to return immediately. Ū was hardly in Baramati for 30 minutes. As soon as I received the call on Saturday noon, I took a bus from Baramati to Pune and from there to Mumbai. From Mumbai I took a flight to Kochi and reached here by 10 am on Sunday. Over the last 48 hours I have been only travelling. I didnÃÕ want to miss the opportunity of a lifetime, Warrier said. On Sunday, the Indian team only practiced fielding drills, which was a blessing in disguise for the travel-weary Warrier. Å´andeep wouldnÃÕ have been at his best if he had to bowl today. By tomorrow he would have rested and will be able to bowl at his best, WarrierÃÔ coach Ram Mohan said.

He was most impressive in the match against Jharkand (also against Tripura) where Kerala handed out a surprise drubbing to Jharkand due to their new found bowling prowess and the sustained batting form of Jagadeesh. Curiously, Warrier did not play some of the earlier Ranji games, which might have enabled Kerala to reach the quarter finals.
