Nova Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 How can the latter not happen w/o the former? :dontknow: You solicit and then you :alienbooty: otherwise it is rape - ain't it? No public solicitation.
Crookbond Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 It means you cant market or advertise...when it just happens' date='you can give them a bill...simple :dontknow:[/quote'] So basically that is used as a discouragement tactic. But this is quite naive - you hardly require "public solicitation".
Tiger80 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 If rape was just about venting sexual frustration, then legalizing prostitution would have helped massively. But psychology of rape(ists) not as simple. Look at the per capita rape statistics (reported), note the numbers for developed / 'open' countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics Here is a paper on - prostitution vs sex crimes http://www.independent.org/publications/working_papers/article.asp?id=1300 Some expert comments on the same question http://prostitution.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=000122 So, IMO, it should help a bit - but not a silver bullet. Interesting rape stats of world Mozambiique has lowest per capita rapes reported while its neighbour South africa is has highest. The feminist countries like Sweden, Norway also have high rape cases. So all those who are beating the drums of Indian Patriarchal culture responsible for rapes should also know That feminist countries like Norway and Sweden too have high number of rape cases

Its difficult to account for countless cases which Indian paandu hawaldars decline to register and the ones where girl/family do not go to police station at all - out of embarassment/threat. Also, in developed countries - '(over)educated women' might over-report many fake incidents out of revenge/suing etc. Still, yes developed countries are not as clean as many self-loathing desis believe (I have encountered few of young NRI kids/ facebook-twitter-warriors who believed there are NO/negligible rapes in US/developed nations).
Crookbond Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 There is no way any country will get ahead of DR Congo.

I agree with it that under reporting is problem in India , but still these stats give lot of help. Bangladesh has 8 rape cases per lakh population .One cannot say that conservative society of BD or police of BD is efficent in reporting rape cases. False reporting is also problem in India.Infact where legal system is screwed up chances of falses case is much higher than any place where investigation or legal system is upto mark.We have not seen any Swedish male organisation like Save indian family which come into existence to save innocent men if women are slapping so many false cases. Also take a look at Japan, it has only 1 rape per lakh population.Japan is not as women friendly like sweden or Norway yet it has very few rape cases. So all those feminists and people which are beating drums that Indian culture or patriarchy is responsible for rapes in India are misguiding people and just promoting their agenda.

As per one estimate numbers of rape cases which are reported in US are 42% of total cases. While in India it is claimed that only one out of 10 cases are reported. Even if you accomodate these factors number of rapes in US amount to close to 55 per 100,000 while in India this number is close to 18. So, there is no reason to believe that in US number of rapes are less than India. This is some perception which is peddaled by western media. This fact that there are more rapes in US than India for similar population sample may seem difficult to believe but if you compare public reaction to two similar incidents - one in Delhi and one in Ohio, you would tend to believe that these numbers tell true story.

Many of these western countries would not have something like save indian family as laws in many countries are gender neutral while in India laws are loaded in favour of females. (For an example, as per Indian laws a female can not be charged with adultery under any circumstances, while a male can be imprisoned for 5 years if adultery proved. IPC 497).So there is a need to bring equality in whole system, hence organizations like Save Indian Family. This is what I abhor most. Rape is a crime and is commited by criminals and prevalent all over the world. But using an incident like Delhi to put down Indian culture is an attempt of furthering their own agenda and they are no different from people who are using Delhi incident to come up with regressive measures like no mobiles for females. They just fall on the opposite side of the line.
DomainK Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 So basically that is used as a discouragement tactic. But this is quite naive - you hardly require "public solicitation". It's illegal for a woman to walk upto a man in a public place and say "Hi, I am a prostitute, would you like to try some of my services? Here is my rate sheet." However, if she says "Hi handsome, whats up? Want to go somewhere more private?" it's not illegal. It's just flirting. Solicitation - illgeal Taking commission from a woman by arranging a deal (pimping) - illegal. Brothel: An organization with employees full or part time for the purpose of prostitution is illegal. A woman can do prostitution on her own if she wants. There is nothing illegal in it. Besides, sticking to the topic, sex is quite freely available in cities like Mumbai and Delhi. There is a goo deal of prostitution that goes on in these cities. And yet, rapes happen.
Crookbond Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Do legal prostitutes have to pay taxes? I guess so.
DomainK Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Do legal prostitutes have to pay taxes? I guess so. Yes. They have to. All kinds of legal income has to be taxed. But you can imagine how many of them must be paying taxes. But they probably pay more in bribe to cops than they save in evading taxes.

Crookbond Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 The domino effect is a chain reaction that occurs when a small change causes a similar change nearby, which then causes another similar change, and so on in linear sequence. The term is best known as a mechanical effect, and is used as an analogy to a falling row of dominoes. It typically refers to a linked sequence of events where the time between successive events is relatively small. It can be used literally (an observed series of actual collisions) or metaphorically (causal linkages within systems such as global finance or politics). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domino_effect
Lurker Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Do you think that if prostituion be legalised it will supress the increasing number of rapes and molestation in the country? In my personal opinion the only scare in legalising prostitution would be an increase in the number of human trafficing and many innocent women being safe passaged into the bussiness, which is as bad a greive as rape. No. It is strange, and absolutely retarded in my opinion, how with all this conversations about rape(s) the best solution we have come up thus far is to legalize prostitution. This is first and foremost a law and order situation. So a lot of work needs to happen on that level. And next lets talk about sex. It is odd how this simple thing gets hush hushed. In a country that has given the word Kamasutra you would be hard pressed to find it in anybody's home. The only place you will find it is on a person(read man)'s computer or hidden under his bed, and there is a great chance he would be deemed a pervert for that!! Do we really expect a different result?
