kumble_rocks Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Nope you did that ... by bringing in BCCI. Nope again , You did that by bringing in Political correctness and this comment ... the priority should be our interests ... there is no umpire out there that protects our interests ... and Taufel is not certainly one of them. I did that For the benefit of folks who have a tendency to see things in negative and reading between the lines pls refer to post # 23 where I undertook a similar exercise. Weird logic ! How does his adherence to technology make him good or bad. He just stated a personal opinion. So , you gonna disqualify him from receiving award simply because he does not want technology. What next Dravid and Tendulkar gonna be disqualified from receiving ICC awards also ! You yourselves said that we should blame BCCI for not dealing with ICC ... implying that you yourselves have a problem with ICC. You have also acknowledged that there is problem with the umpiring in general and in particular Taufel commited mistakes . But you still see it fit to go ahead and bestow platitudes on Taufel knowing very well that its not exactly in the best interests of our team . Talk about double standards.Again irrelevant to the topic at hand simply because award is for a calender year and he has been excellent . Please stick to the topic and quit your double standards and pedantry . Who else should receive the award in his place?

kumble_rocks Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I gave you my opinion on how you nominating Taufel despite acknowledging that he made blunders amounts to PC .. Am I allowed to do that ? You are allowed to express whatever you want ! But both Maris and myself clarified that it had noting to do with PC . I still maintain that he deserves the award and you feel he doesn't . Let's agree to disagree.
kumble_rocks Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Jesus, I am a glutton for punishment. I wasted couple of hours debating a useless topic and I am gonna bill my client for it !

The Outsider Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 The best umpire should get the Umpire of the Year award and there is very little doubt in my mind that Tauffel was the best umpire over the last year or so. His frankness at admitting his faults, welcoming the use of technology etc. show that he is not the run of the mill umpire who feels pressurized and threatened at all steps. He knows he is good and uses that confidence to make good decisions at a higher rate than his peers. It's not his fault that the ICC is not allowing the umpires to use more technology.

The Outsider Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I dont think he has ever welcomed use of Technology... I remember reading one of his interviews where he said he would be happy with whatever help he can get to make better decisions.

The Outsider Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 ^ Thanks for the links. Unfortunately, a simple google search could not get me to the interview I was referring to but from the interviews you posted his quotes were more on the lines of, "There's probably no right or wrong answer to the question of whether there is enough or not enough technology in cricket. "I wouldn't say I'm anti-technology, but I'm cautious about it. Simon Taufel, Koertzen's colleague at the SCG, was in agreement. "For us as umpires, it's all a little bit disconcerting," he said. "There's an extra decision-making process, working out whether we use the third umpire or not. A lot of stoppages have harmed the momentum. It's nice to have it but I'm just trying to umpire normally as though the technology isn't there. If I've got no idea about what took place, the help is obviously there but ... which are comments not really saying technology is bad or good, but he would welcome stuff which would improve his performance given he has enough faith in it. One must remember, the umpires and players are not scientists and they need to be convinced that technology yields better dividends.

The Outsider Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 ^ I agree, but I swear having read an interview by him to the effect he'll welcome anything which improves his decision making, but can't find it anywhere. shwetabh 0 : Bheembhai 1
King Tendulkar Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 If you were getting shafted by a red hot poker some of you guys would claim it was ok. As long as it was done by a non indian. If it was done by an indian you would be jumping up and down and complaining!

King Tendulkar Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 Why are there no indian umpires? Dont tell me there are none good enough, thats BULL! Other more sinister reasons. ICC jelous of BCCI muscle, trying other ways to keep us down!
kumble_rocks Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Excellent umpiring by Taufel today !
