philcric Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I'm reading this new book from EspnCricinfo called "Talking Cricket", basically collection of interviews over the years with some of the game's greats. I'll list here some of the funny or interesting lines from the book as I read along.
philcric Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Sehwag is a total entertainer in the interviews. On night watchmen .. What is the difference between batting at the end of the day or at the start? If you make a mistake, you'll get out. So, I don't think a batsman really needs a night watchman. Whenever a captain or coach asked me if i need a night watchman, I would say "No, why? If I can't survive 10 or 20 balls now, then I don't think I'll survive tomorrow morning."
philcric Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Sehwag .... Q: Did Greg Chappell give you any valuable tips? VS: No.
philcric Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Sehwag .. About talking to mind specialists like Rudi Webster and Paddy Upton .. Basically there are lot of frustrations inside and and you are telling the person who is listening to you all the rubbish.
philcric Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Sehwag .. During the Multan triple century innings, Tendulkar told me, "If you try to hit a six, I will hit you on the bum". That is why I didn't hit sixes in Multan, but when I was near 300 I told him that I was going to hit Saqlain Mushtaq for a six and he could hit me on my bum if he wanted!
philcric Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Sehwag .. Q: Is there one shot of Tendulkar you would like to have? VS: His cover drive, but I don't think I can play that, probably because of the lack of feet movement.
philcric Posted March 9, 2013 Author Posted March 9, 2013 Sehwag .. I was batting on 291 at chepauk (2008), against South Africa. I told Paul Harris, "Come around the wicket and first ball I'll hit you for a six.". He accepted my challenge and the very first ball, I hit him for a straight six, and there was a long-ff, long-on, deep mid wicket and a deep point. I was so tired and he was bowling on the pads and I was getting bored. So rather than spending 10-15 minutes to get to the triple century, I gave him good advice.

philcric Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Kumble .. I am sure all of us spinners, when we are not really at our best, would like to just hit the batsman with a bouncer.
