Ultimate_Game Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Why not? If Dhoni is such a goti waala kaptaan as you fanboys would like us to believe he can always pick Rahane over Tendulkar from the squad given to him by the selectors. :hmmm: I am not claiming anything... I am simply saying he's not as bad as he's made out to be. And you would know it as well as anybody out here that Dhoni, or any captain for that matter, cannot drop Tendulkar from the team. If he's in the squad he will be in. Period. Same as Ponting & Hussey to be in Aussie playing XI as long as they were in the squad. It's the selector's job, who are paid by the way, to make that tough call and take the heat for that move by dropping Tendulkar from the squad. I am sure if you are intellectually honest you will see that :winky:

The selection of the team from the squad is with Dhoni, Yes/No? Selection of Tendulkar in the squad can be blamed on selectors, Yes/No? Selection of Tendulkar in the team should be blamed on Dhoni, Yes/No?

No. If you are thinking that any Indian captain can drop Tendulkar from a match then you are living in a fool's paradise. Selectors have copped out by selecting Tendulkar in the squad and no, Tendulkar can't be dropped from the team as long as he's in the squad. Let me go a bit further. Dhoni can be replaced by any captain, and if Tendulkar is in the squad he will play. If you want to pin Tendulkar's selection in the team on Dhoni by all means go ahead.

Thanks for acknowledging that and at the same time you would want to acknowledge that the captain has a say in the squad selection - it's not a one way street.

I acknowledge this as well. Every captain will have his couple of favored players which he will want to have in the team. In Dhoni's case you can see he trusts Raina and Jadeja. You can blame Dhoni for not playing Ojha or for picking Jadeja but there are a few calls which are beyond him, i.e. dropping seniors like Dravid, Laxman or Tendulkar. Selectors have to earn their money by making those tough calls and dropping those players from the squad coz any Indian captain will not be able to.

I would also gleefully accept that he's biased towards players like Jadeja, Raina etc. In case, they do not work Dhoni should cough up every bit of flak & vice-versa. Every captain has his own bias however those conspiracy theories with Rhiti Sports Management and CSK are OTT in my books.

That's what I meant when I said Dhoni trusts certain players more than others, i.e. he's biased in their favor. Every captain has his own favorites and Dhoni is no different. He would and should have been lampooned had Jadeja and Murali Vijay failed in the series coz I didn't think they deserved the call-up ahead of others but they performed so can't do much in this case. I wouldn't agree with Jadeja's selection outside the subcontinent either and Dhoni should be blamed if Jadeja flops in SA.

[b']I wouldn't agree with Jadeja's selection outside the subcontinent either and Dhoni should be blamed if Jadeja flops in SA. Yes - absolutely. But, in Jadeja's case I think it's more Duncan Fletcher who is backing him (atleast according to Dravid whom I guess would know better than most of us). Watch around 2:00 mark - in any case Dhoni should cough up the blame as well. Lc5pQHMvCgc That said, I don't think Jadeja would play - at least I would be surprised if he does ahead of Irfan Pathan or a seam bowling all rounder. But, our options are pretty limited as of now for that 7th position - we would ideally play 3 fast bowlers plus 1 spinner. Now Ashwin looks like the spinner who will take that spot unless he's injured. Who are the three fast bowlers - apart from Umesh Yadav needs to be seen. I would like Bhuvnesh Kumar and Shami Ahmed to play out there but that series has some time to go and we'll see how it goes.
